FINALLY started listening to this. I'm listening to "One Nation Under A Groove" and this is some good stuff.
I'm gonna have to get their other albums, and of course, get into some Parliament, as well.

I gotta say that "Who Says A Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!" definitely hits it home.
It's a shame that we still have barriers as to what types of bands are only "permitted" to play a certain style.

I'm guessing you meant me (I'm DS, not DP ;) ).
No, haven't got "Maggot Brain" yet (though the songs appears on "One Nation Under A Groove"), but that's my next target. :)

...yeah.... I dunno. It gets kinda old to sit through.
See -- that "Don't worry... I won't hurt you..." intro is much cooler to me. I can hear that repeatedly and not squirm.
Better late than never.(y)
Check out "Free your mind...and your ass will follow". One of the best Funkadelic songs ...no no no.... one of the best songs ever. EVER!
DS...if you are just getting into them....buckle up.
The first time I heard Funkadelic was in Gourmet Foods in school. I heard a voice say "If you will suck my soul, i will lick your funky emotions." I ditched the rest of school and went to the record store to buy some Funkadelic that day.
The detention I got was waaaay worth it.

buckle up is the best advice offered yet. I also love Free Your Mind BUT I don't know many other people who do so it's always nice to meet another fan. For most folks i know it just went that bit too far, Eddie Hazel is amazing on that track, and Bernie Worrel is sublime

The fist Funkadelic album (One Nation Under A Groove) I got was thrown to me from the window of a moving VW bus. I picked it up, dusted it off and walked home studying all the crazy artwork. When I got home I put that sucker on the turntable and became a fan for life.
True story.

ahhhh i see, then in that case oh hell yes. I'm sure it would've been an experience never to forget. A couple of friends of mine met GC after an allstars gig in Liverpool about 12 years ago, went back to his hotel room to get high. They said he was just hilarious

Seriously one of the best live acts to ever grace American music. George Clinton inspired my entire zinedom and the whole photography thing.
I've seen him several times, but you have to see him live to trully apppreciate P-Funk. Once you've seen, in person, a 45 minute version of one of his tracks you trully understand what P-Funk is all about.

I can't believe that Brett Lambert is only now beginning to discover Funkadelic for the first time. Boy, is that ever inferior. LOL!
I saw George Clinton and The P-Funk Allstars at Lollapalooza in 94. I was already a fan at the time, but I didn't really enjoy the performance that much to be honest.
I like a lot of Parliament, but I really prefer the Funkadelic albums. And I agree that Maggot Brain is clearly the most essential of them. Super Stupid and the title track are incredible. Eddie Hazel was like Jimi Hendrix reincarnated.

i think mike hampton had a real big hill to climb as Eddies replacement but i think he did and admirable job. His guitar playing on coming round the mountain is sensational. I have a live version of Maggot Brain from not long after Eddie left thats very very nice
