I've always loved Monopoly. When I was really little, Candyland. :D
monopoly, snakes and ladders, and a bunch others (my brother and i had this giant book (1m*1.5m)full of board games).
my all time favorite has been, and always will be chess.

guess who!
and instead of asking boring questions, make them funny/interesting eg "does he look like he has been through financial hardship?" "do they look like they have loved before and will never love again" "

i still play monopoly on my gameboy advance sp. the dr plays tetris. i used to play tetris, but when you start seeing everything as blocks to fit them together, it's a good idea to take a break from it. i'm on year 3 of my hiatus.
board games as a youth...
life and monopoly were two of my favorites (duh). i also like backgammon a lot, and sometimes i play that on my palm pilot. yahtzee is a dice game and not so much a board game, but i'm making my own rules here. checkers was great if you wanted something quick, and connect 4, sort of a variation of checkers. as i got older, i went more for scrabble, boggle, pictionary, and trivial pursuit. i never got into that game sorry, nor did i play much chinese checkers. a friend at work has chinese checkers and she and another friend are constantly fueding over who is better, and then they have to play the best two out of three.
i'm guessing our chutes and ladders is like your snakes and ladders.

Trivial Pursuit, Outburst, Sorry!, and a few others...
Now, we have the games that groups of 10+ can play at parties and shit, that aren't really board games - Balderdash, Apples to Apples, Drinking Jenga, Pit, etc. Oh, and I recently got into Settlers of Catan. :o

Hey, it's just like Risk with resources and cards and other stuff.
So I guess it's not really like Risk that much. But hey, I like it.
You know what is like Risk? Axis and Allies. My brother and I still play that. I always play Germany because it's in 1942 and I have the clear advantage starting out. Ain't no party like a national socialiste party cuz a national socialiste party don't stop.

I too am an Axis and Allies aficionado - a group of lifelong friends and I have been playing it for the better part of a decade and we never get tired of it. Risk is good every now and then, and chess is a classic that I always enjoy - especially against somebody I don't know. But my all-time favourite board game is definitely Samurai Swords, formerly known as Shogun. It's like Axis and Allies, but much more flexible and intricate - and it's set in feudal Japan, which I think is one of the coolest eras ever in human history. Great way to spend thirteen hours of your life!

We once played on the ouija board in a wiccan store. We broke in late at night (well, my friend worked there and knew how to get in) and cast all these spells and weird voodoo shit before we got on. It was good times. We talked to her dead grandma.
On a side note, homemade Ouija Boards are much more fun. And apparently more dangerous...if you believe in the occult and stuff.

you know...monopoly and scrabble and things of that nature.
i like board games. they bring people together....so that one person comes out victorious and the unfortunate ones wallow in their undying shame while the winner points and laughs in the losers' faces, because they are ultimately better than them.....FUN! :D

I used to like Settlers of Catan but I got tired of saying: I got wood for sheep!
Mertwigs Maze and Kings & Things are two excellent boardgames.

yuuuup. That music when you build hotels or houses will be stuck in my head til I die.
wtf is snakes and ladders? Must be some kind of queerish eurotrash game. Here in heterosexual USA we have Chutes and Ladders.

Those Roman Crucifiixations.
I've been all about Taboo, Scattergories, Beyond Balderdash etc.
I like games that take some creativity to play.

I always liked life and monopoly, but no one would ever play with me because they take so long.
Now it's mostly scrabble.
