From CNN:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court agreed Monday to consider whether the Bush administration must regulate carbon dioxide to combat global warming, setting up what could be one of the court's most important decisions on the environment.
The decision means the court will address whether the administration's decision to rely on voluntary measures to combat climate change are legal under federal clean air laws.
"This is the whole ball of wax. This will determine whether the Environmental Protection Agency is to regulate greenhouse gases from cars and whether EPA can regulate carbon dioxide from power plants," said David Bookbinder, an attorney for the Sierra Club....

And if the EPA is found that they must, I wonder what watered down and weak ass laws our congress will pass for our president to sign.

i think this is a good step. i hope that someday we can realize that growth and expansion are pointless. that sustainability is the key to evolution. not just sustainability in regards to any single aspect of life, but in our living, in our life. are we here to work, to slave away for money, to pickle between politicts, create war, murder. we are creative beings with amazing potential. we have no other purpose than to love, live and be creators. we are endowed with the creative capacity to love. there is no better purpose than to harmonize yourself with the universe. it is buddha, it is jesus, it is god and it is you and i.

practically speaking, it's like 5 Republican and 4 Democrats and none of them has any expertise in global warming, just giving it a chance.
The more important distinction is in their jurisdiction and how the law fits in this case.
