For a fan like myself, this (http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1195670_4_0_,00.html/) sucks.
Rumors of Outkast breaking up have been around for over 10 years now, it's nothing new. But this one just might be true...

...because they're each issuing a disc? Because they won't work together? Because one wants to tour and the other doesn't?

if Dre's hearts not in it then they should........I wish they wouldn't pull such a "pop" move.
"Pop move" like bands breaking up? I dunno, it wasn't really a "pop" move when Leaders of The New School broke up and Busta went solo. There's probably just good reason.

i think it's partly to push the upcoming album.
for example: X-Men 3 was constantly referred to as the last one. then the final 20 minutes is dedicated to setting up nine more films.
in comparison, maybe they're worried about following the massive success of Speakerboxx/LB with a soundtrack to a musical. all these rumors of break-ups are only going to get word of mouth going.
but rumors of an Outkast break-up are like rumors of a Zack De La Rocha solo album. They've been around so long, I've just stopped caring.

Exactly, I've been dismissing them for years now. But this interview (while most likely exagerated) seems to indicate that despite the new single (The Mighty O) with Andre rhyming, Dre seems to be moving further away from Outkast, rather than getting back to hip hop like we all hoped. Reading that interview it seems the two are on totally different planets.
Sticking together might hamper each one's creativity, also. Continuing this process of releasing "half and half" albums doesn't let either really flex their creative muscle, so to speak.
Dre might be my favorite MC in hip hop, so all this blows, if you ask me (n)

I can see how Dre would be sick of the corporate machine Outkast has become. It's essentially more a brand name than a rap group. But personally, I think Idlewild will be the deciding factor. It sounds like the world's biggest compromise to me. It's like Big Boi said, "Ok, I'll be in the movie if you rap on the soundtrack."
Personally, I don't think the movie looks very good.
