View Full Version : really bizarre problem with my keyboard

i don't know what the fuck's going on. if i press the "A" button, it activates capslock on my computer. watch. the following line is me pressing the a button repeatedly.

AaAaAaAaAaAaAa

if i press the capslock button, it presses a over and over, in alternating caps. the following line is me pressing the capslock button over and over, nothing else.

AaAaAaAaAaAaAaAaAa

if i press the tab button, it makes a \ sign before tabbing. i'm going to press tab now, on the next line.

\

i'm sure there are other things going on, too. this is bizarre. it's like some sartre-esque nightmare, where everything seems to have decided to change for no reason. i don't get it. i wasn't even doing anything unusual. i worked on a spreadsheet in excel, went to move some boxes, came back, AND NOW I'M DOING THIS, I DON'T LIKE IT

anyone have any ideas what the hell's going on? i'd google, but i wouldn't even know how to start searching.

i have weird shit with my mouse sometimes actually. sometimes the axis is wrong: like if i move the mouse upwards the cursor on the screen will move down. ITS NOT MY FAULT I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!

Maybe check and see if the contacts beneath the "caps lock" and the "a" have something stuck down there which is making them act as one. A paper clip or something under there?

I think you can safely pry up the keys and have a look if you have to, but sometimes just turning the thing upside down and shaking it works.

AaAaAaAaAaA

NOPE DIDN'T WORK

I FIGURED OUT a new problem. pressing numlock cAUSES FIREFOX TO REFRESH. Maybe it's linked to f5 somehow? thAT Makes no sense AT all, the keyes AREN'T anywhere neAR eACH OTHER.

I thought that this was going to be another sex thread.

Sounds to me like someone rewired your keys while you were sleeping.

ok, i got a new keyboard from an empty office, that fixed it. so it's a keyboard problem, i guess. i've never seen that before, ever.

I always panic about my threads once they're past three posts.

"New keyboard". Right. I think you just realized that typing with random caps didn't make you seem any cooler, Bob.

was it wireless? this keyboard freaks out like that all the time, sometimes when it gets too close to the receiver.

One can never dicount the possibility that it's malware at work. You'd be surprised what programs can be found behind the corporate firewall

wouldn't that affect any keyboard i tried to use, though? replacing the keyboard fixed the problem, so it was a hardware thing, i guess.

it's a small company, so i can't imagine there's too much risk of that kind of thing.

Usually when something weird happens with my keyboard, it's because some crap is in there. Usually it's granola with raisins because I eat that each day and some of it always falls.

I learned to upside-down-shake-out my keyboard really well before I call IT. :o

I spilled 7Up on my keyboard one time and it left me wondering why in the hell Mom bought 7Up.
