99% of the time, people who are suspended don't care about their record, therefore time off from something they don't care about isn't a punishment. to me it just seems like a vacation. bosses are so stupid

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I couldn't give 2 shits what my academic record was like back in high school. Eventually I had to do additional testing for college entry anyway.

I got suspended for 4 days because of cherry bomb and M-80 firecracker pranks. Only bad part was the wrath of the parents. No class for 4 days, now THAT was great. (y)

what about being suspended with pay? what's the punishment there, exactly? i guess it goes on your record, but still. free vacation.

no i'm not suspended, though i'm thinking about fixing a suspension up!

my friend at work had too many absenses, so they gave her some more time off to think about what she's done. so she's suspended for three days, then she has her two regular days off. i would gladly take a three day paycut if it meant i could take a trip to south carolina! psha

the only sucky thing about it i guess is that if she has one more absense in however long, she's fired.

It's supposed to be a wake-up call to help the person realize the gravity of the situation. You're right, though, in that if there are other forces at play, then a person who deserves a suspension will probably be unaffected by it unless HR intervenes and tries to help the person (genuinely help them v. just do a CYA from a legal perspective).

yeah no one really cares too much about suspension in high school. i was suspended twice at school, once for fighting and once for drinking at the school formal. never had any problems with it except for a stern lecture from my parents at the time, lol

it was really easy to get suspended from my school. close to impossible to get expelled, unless it was for drugs.

seriously tho, on a camping trip i went on a couple of guys started a fire on fraser island, leaving about a 50 square meter patch of totally burnt bush, and they only copped 3 days suspension. oh one dude got an extra day for bringing Coke to camp too

no, definitely not. the kids who got suspended were always the standard-class kids who thought fighting your teacher was cool and selling drugs will get you lots of friends and any other scenario that makes you think "wow that's retarded" you can think of

yeah well your teacher is a redneck and you're the only exception to the suspension rule ever.

The only time someone's gotten expelled from my old high school was when he was arrested for murder.

There were 2 upper-class white kids who were sold 'bad weed' aka oregano, and when they found out, they tracked down the kid who sold it to him (he was in my grade, also an upper class whitey) and killed him. They pulled a switchblade on him, stabbed him several times, and then proceeded to beat him in the head with a heavy log another 30 times until he was rendered unrecognizable. Then they dumped his body in a storm drain behind my old house.

I mean, ho-ly shit. This shit doesn't happen where I'm from, at all. Everyone in my high school was entirely freaked out, and still are to this day. The worst part of it all was that one of the murderers was my friend's brother, she had a terrible time dealing with it.

SO uh, yeah, in conclusion, that was the only time someone's been expelled from school. Cough.

then in 8th grade i ripped no smoking signs off the walls and got busted, they suspended me from school for a whole week... the other guy i got caught with got the same punishment... we hung out all week and did yardwork for our parents... it was a blast!

At my local hospital a heart surgeon has been suspended for something like five years on pay. A bloody heart surgeon with a bloody good salary, I imagine. Eugh.
