View Full Version : 90's One Hit Alt-Rockers
Okay. A guy I was rooming with a while back had a wicked 90's one-hit-wonder mix CD. Lots of bands I remembered from the radio when I was a kid/highschool. Can anyone who's a little older and has a better memory remind me of a few?
Priming the pump -
Toadies - Do You Wanna Die
Gandarvas - The First Day of Spring
L7 - Pretend That We're Dead
- - also, no debate on whether these bands deserve to be labeled 1 hit.

Snap! I forgot about that thread.
I think mine is a little more specific though...maybe. Alt-rock is such a loose tag.

What exactly was the Stone Roses hit? I got their first album, but I just kind of let it play in the background while I was doing something and nothing caught my attention.

Marcy Playground...I love those guys. Their debut was classic, at least in my eyes. Not a weak track on it. Their softmore effort "Shapeshifter" had some good tracks on it, but didn't live up to its predecessor. Still, great band (y)

I got a friend to buy that Cracker cd because of that track, and never got the cd myself! :o
And I just loved that Screaming Trees track, I even went to see Alice in Chains because they were supporting (and I saw them in New York as well, supporting Dinosaur Jr, but can't remember much of that gig... :p :o got in through the backdoor (some doormen had a business of their own on the side...), loads of beer, cute girl, hrmhrm... )

I still don't understand how you can be alt and have a hit and I still think of alt-rock as popular stuff like REM because that's what was always played on our "alt-rock" station.
They're too pop-y but how about Edwyn Collins -- A Girl Like You? or Crash Test Dummies -- Mmm Mmm Mmm (or whatever it was called)?
