I don't know if I agree with this, but the NY Post has an article about which song will be the best song of the summer 2006 (http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/the_noise_of_summer_entertainment_mary_huhn.htm)! They've even broken it down by odds, what d'ya think?
The song: "Promiscuous" by Nelly Furtado and Timbaland
Odds are...: ...2-1
The song: "Déjà Vu" by Beyonce with Jay-Z
Odds are...: ...3-1
The song: "Sexy Back" by Justin Timberlake
Odds are...: 3-1
The song: "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley
Odds are...: 3
The song: "A Public Affair" by Jessica Simpson
Odds are...: ...4-1
The song: "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira and Wyclef Jean
Odds are...: ...5-1
The song: "Shine" by Luther Vandross
Odds are...: 6-1
The song: "Dutty Wine" by Tony Matterhorn
Odds are...: 7-1
The song: "Smiley Faces" by Gnarls Barkley
Odds are...: ...7-1
The song: "Ain't No Other Man" by Christina Aguilera
Odds are...: 8-1
The song: "You Only Live Once" by the Strokes
Odds are...: 10-1
For me, I've already pegged you only live once by the Strokes as my 2006 summer song

Crazy will catch on even moreso in the US than it has. Also, I hope Free Radicals by the Flaming Lips gets some momentum if released as a single.

"Summertime Blues" - "Begin your barbeque with Eddie Cochran's version. When things get louder, switch to Blue Cheer's version. The Who's version should be playing by the time the police arrive."
Lily Allens "Smile" ought to be up there at about 5-1, because it's hard not to smile after seeing the video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=QngjaeSkn5Y&search=Allen%20smile).

Mine one is "Riot radio" by the Dead 60's... I didn't know about this group since my travel to Mugello (to see Valentino Rossi and Daniel Pedrosa on MotoGP) on 4th june.... The song in of 2005... anyway I think it's my summers's soundtrack... (with the beasties ones!)

i like hips don't lie, i sing along to it and sing the SHAKIRA SHAKIRA! part really loud in a high screechy voice so that it freaks everyone out (y)
but ain't no other man is a good one too. i'm starting to like christina aguilera again because of that song, so it must be doing something right.
and i didn't know justin timberlake was still making songs? i must have not gotten the memo

New Kids On The Block had a bunch of hits
Chinese food makes me sick
And I think it's fly
when girls stop by
for the summer
For the summer
I like girls that wear Abrecomie and Fitch
I'll take her if I had one wish
But she's been gone
since that summer
Since that summer

I actually liked that song, believe it or not. It always reminds me of my awesome summer of 1999, that's why.
And hey, LFO is not completely bad. I mean, they're Beastie Boys fans, so that's something good, right? And I liked their cover of "Paul Revere" too. Really.

I think my this summer's song is Treehouse by I'm from Barcelona (http://www.myspace.com/imfrombarcelona).
I'm just about to make a compilation for our roadtrip next weekend. The other people in the car have quite an extreme taste (loads of 60's, rockabilly, trash, the more obscure the better) so I really have to find some good stuff, like Barracudas and stuff...

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

That damn "crazy" by gnarlsbarkley is stuck in my head everywhere I go this past week, and I'm trying to ignore it.
It just remixes so well it's hard to ignore  damn.....
I remember when, I remember when, I remember when (http://benlovesmusic.blogspot.com/2006/07/cee-lo-is-blowin-up-like-saigon-on.html)
I was trying to figure this out myself a couple of days ago. I'm leaning toward Shakira because I randomly get Wyclef saying "SHAKIRAH SHAKEERAH!" looping in my head. Plus it's been out a lot longer. For pop culture's sake I choose that one.
I do enjoy the Nelly tune a lot more though. So that'd have to be my own personal pick. She's on firah.
p.s. Missez - Love Song f/Pimp C (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqzbGLU23og) is one of those shits that won't stick. I think it's pure sex though. Who the hell produced this?! Damn!

That Rihanna song where she compares herself to a murderer may be the worst use of metaphor that I've ever heard.

That was the Mets theme song for the 2000 Subway Series, so I heard it more than once during the playoffs. Good times. Good times. (y)
