like since i was 11. and for the amount of time i've been playing, i'm nowhere near as good as i should be. i know that i haven't been playing constantly that whole time. but still. jesus. i should be fucking awesome as fuck right now.

i feel the same about me and my bass. i should've paid more attention to him (yes, him) during these three years we've been together. i seem to play more on my brother's acoustic guitar. i'm such a bad girlfriend. :(
but i'm fine with being a "somewhat decent" bassist (in my own words). i'll work on it. later. sometime. i still love my bass.

Same with me and piano. I know that I don't have a gift for it, but I also know that I don't put in nearly as much time with it as I should.
My one friend has been playing guitar for ~35 years and he is amazing. Just has an ear for it. He's amazing at math too--those two things go hand-in-hand. Anyway, If I see him when he's home, it's rare that he doesn't have one of his guitars in hand.

Same with me. My freshman year college roomate was a fucking guitar master, but I was too self absorbed to ask him for help. Now I'm just starting to learn and I suck. Oh well.

enree reminded me... i used to take piano lessons, but grew tired after a year or so. my teacher was very strict and weird (in a bad way), and i forgot to have fun while playing. when there was no joy left, i quit (quitted?).
sometimes i play on the keyboard in our living room (my dad's really attached to it), but it's not the same as a piano. i kinda miss it.

I spend at least two hours on my guitar everyday when I get off from work. I can't let it sit there and collect dust.
My mind is hungry for learning new scales, riffs etc and also in my free time, I've found websites that tells everything there is to know about playing.
I also buy instructional dvds and Guitar magazines which also are very beneficial to learning.

i used to think i have potential for congas and other percussion...when im at shows THAT is what i feel! the beat gets to me, gets through me and i start dancing like a monkey on fire. so i bought some bongos like 5 years ago, then a djembe and a few other small drums. still havent been able to get some congas due to my nomadic lifestyle, but maybe some day. but i have come to realize- im really not that good:o

it would be cool to start a bboys board band...wed have to think of a clever name. we could post sound files, each person lay down a line, or a riff or whatever you want to call it, and we can all add a little and some genius out there on the board who mixes music can throw it all together. we could rock:rolleyes:
That was done while the BS2000 forum still existed.

I used to play the guitar regulary when I was in 7th Grade. Just played it everyday for a hour, and went to lessons every Saturday. It was fun. Then my teacher moved away, and I stopped going to lessons. I went to another guitar teacher once in 2002, but other than that, my guitar collected dust in my closet for 3 years until I moved to Miami in 2004. I lost my guitar in the move, and I haven't gotten a replacement.
Shame too, because I'm itching to play the guitar again. Along with an itching to start playing the bass, the drums, and the piano.

Oh no, what kind of guitar was it?

It was a black and white Fender, I believe. Nothing too fancy, but it served it's purpose.
Next time I get a guitar, I want it to be one of the old red and black ones. The kind used in the 50's, that were used in rockabilly songs.

Like Angus Young's Gibson SG? (http://www.proix.com/product/gibson_sg_gk/all.jpg)
I've got a Yamaha AES 800 and it's very similar to a Les Paul. I'm very impressed with Yamaha guitars and I'll keep mine forever but, I'll eventually get a custom made Gibson.

I'm kinda bum I don't have my guitar anymore. I was going to decorate it and everything.

First helpful piece of info. Don't buy a beginner's bass. If you start out, you want to start with something nice and easy to get attached to. Also I find that of all the beginner's basses I've seen, the action is set way to high and they just feel gaudy.
I started with a beginner's Fender Squire Strat and had it for 15 years. I liked it but it was always in the back of my head that I had a beginner's bass so I grew a conscience about it and when it finally shat out on me, I just got rid of it. I imagine that if it were a pro bass, I'd probably still have it.
you reckon? so buy a... nice, good bass and buy an amp later?
the only reason why i aimed at a starter kit was because some come with the strap, bag (never gonna use that), a dvd, tuner etc etc.
i don't really mind if it's crappy and 'beginner'-esque. if i get better at it soon and i feel like i wanna get a better one, then yeah.. i'll go out and buy it.
i figure it out when i get to some store i guess.

yeah, a starter kit is ok but you have to remember that you get what you pay for so, the sound isn't exactly all that decent because in most cases, the strings are the cheapest as well as the pick-ups.
Another thing is that if you have a decent bass that you admire, you'd have more influence to play it everday whereas you've got a cheap starter's bass, the influence wouldn't be quite as high. It's something I've witnessed with my friends that have starters.
But as I said, I started on a beginner's bass and I kept it for a while and used it in a couple bands. I just bought some nice pick ups for it and kept fresh strings on it.

Yeah though. A nice bass and a used amp would be good for starting. Or even a nice used professional bass and amp.
You could find decent deals on Peavy amps and if you're starting, you'd only need a 50 watt amp.

I love my instruments.
I got an acoustic guitar as old as me, and a nice suzuki acoustic. My favourite electric guitar I've had for 20 years now.. its a 1960s hybrid epiphone, which I love dearly. My bass took a nosedive a year ago after 20 years of hammering and in the absence of original replacement electrics for it and wasting a lot of money putting new stuff in, I bought a Warwick fretless 5 string bass and was surprised how quickly my loyalty to the old bass fell away. It rocks! I also bought a double bass a few years back now, and it still gives me cramp after half an hour or so...one day I'll be good...practice practice practice! My bass amps are ridiculously large :)
