Instead of talking about hit songs, let's talk about songs you WISHED were hit songs. Songs that you love that, either the artist never released them as a single, or, the song was released as a single, but never became a hit. Songs that made you think, "Man. I freaking love this song! I wish this song was a megahit. It deserves to be."

I'll start.

Quarashi-"Mr. Jinx": No question, this is my first choice. This song is my favorite hip-hop track EVER. Oh sure, I've listened to alot of Public Enemy, alot of N.W.A., alot of Beastie Boys. But this song is my pick for best hip-hop song ever made. I just love this song so much, and I believe that anyone who listens to it will love it too. It's just so catchy, so positive, and so...awesome, that it should have been a hit. A monster hit too. I'm talking as popular as "Hey Ya!" was for OutKast. It had crossover appeal too. I could see this song being played on hip-hop stations, Top 40 stations, and rock stations too. The video for "Mr. Jinx" was in regular rotation on MTV, MTV2, and Much Music, but as I've learned many times, just because you're played on an MTV channel doesn't mean you'll have a hit. I blame "Mr. Jinx" not being a hit on the fact that Quarashi released "Stick 'Em Up" as their first single off of Jinx, and "Stick 'Em Up" not being a hit. The highest Jinx went up the Billboard chart was #104. Out of 200. By the time Quarashi released "Mr. Jinx", Jinx had fallen off the charts. I truly believe that if Quarashi had released "Mr. Jinx" as the first single off of Jinx instead of "Stick 'Em Up", then "Mr. Jinx" would be a monster hit, and Jinx would have been the hit album Columbia Records wanted, and maybe, just maybe, Quarashi wouldn't have broken up. Oh well. We'll never know for sure. I just think it's not fair that not everyone has heard of this song. I freaking love it, and so should everyone on Earth.

Skye Sweetnam-"Tangled Up In Me": I think I've written more about Skye Sweetnam in the past 24 hours then I have in the year and a half I've been on the Beastie Boys Message Board. Anyway, this song was released as a single, but it didn't go up far. Like #42 I think. And her album, Noise From The Basement went only up to #124 in the Billboard 200. Well, suffice to say, I think that's bullshit. If "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne went to #5, then why couldn't "Tangled Up In Me" go up to #4. Or #1? Poor Skye. She put so much effort into this song and album, and had to go through SO many setbacks, and the best this song does is #42? That's gotta suck. At least it did well in Japan and Thailand. But I'm still miffed that this song wasn't the megahit it should have been. Skye deserved a megahit, damnit! "Number One" didn't even chart in the U.S.! The fuck?!

That's pretty much it. I can't really think of many songs where I thought, "WHY WASN'T THIS SONG A HIT!?!?!" Those are the main two I can think of. Hey party people, you got any others?

"Married With Children" is one of my favourite songs by Oasis, but because there were so many other awesome songs on Definitely Maybe, it never got released. (n)

"Assessment" or "Squares" by The Beta Band.

Either should've hit, but if they had, the band might have been able to afford to keep the group together.
