I don't know what I hate more, tegenarias (http://safari.zog.org/images/20040324%20010.jpg) or cellar spiders (http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/indexmag.html?http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/spider/pholcus1.html).

We used to have the odd teggie running around the house, but recently I've noticed dozens of little cellar spiders hiding around the dusty corners of the bathroom and computer room and a distinct lack of the fuzzies. There's a cellar spider looking down at me from above as I type this.

The problem is, according to wikipedia (in wikipedia we trust), that cellar spiders catch and eat tegenarias, despite their obviously smaller size. The thing is, although teggies scare the shit out of me and are far bigger, they are few and far between and now that the cellar spiders have taken over they are EVERYWHERE, and they are really difficult to see - plus they look like something out of War of the Worlds which kinda freaks me out more.

So... what would you rather have living alongside you?

This poll is now void because I just happened across a cellar spider the size of my fist; Hence, death to the infidel.

I don't like spiders either. I try, but it's so hard. I can do a lot of things but spiders and centipedes make my spine tingle.

I have cellar spiders in my basement. They're not so bad. They're mostly afraid of people, I think. When I go near them, the spin around fast for maybe 15 seconds and then they retreat.

In my second floor bathroom is this tiny but brutal looking spider. Really, he's <.5mm, but he's fierce looking--curved hairy arms and he sort of hops from point A to B. He doesn't appear to be intimidated easily--maybe he has small spider syndrome. I'm letting him be for now but if he gets even a bit bigger, out he goes. :)

You're all a bunch of wussies. Like my mom, I was riding in the car while she was driving and a wolf spider crawled across the dashboard towards her and she just about killed us becuase she was going spastic at the wheel.

I just reached over, picked it up and rolled down the window and let it go.

Where I live Wolf spiders are everywhere and I swear the big ones have a body as big as softballs. I voted for celler spiders but I HATE Wolf spiders.

When I lived in Papua New Guinea, there were spiders that had bodies that were only about a milimetre big, but their abdomens were as big as a mans hand and their legs were about a foot long! And their webs were as big as a house and they would catch elebphants and other unwary beasts.

you're from manchester and you know the species names of these spiders? you call them "teggies" as if you're really familiar with them? wtf? it's not australia, man! a spider's a spider in the uk. all i know is the bastard flying one is the daddy long legs.

these things you call teggies look a lot worse to me. i would piss my pants.
daddy long legs; they make me so nervous! they're always flying about really scared-like. and they hover around your face and yuck yuck yuck. you can't predict where they're gonna go.

i don't believe in karma. i kill any that come near me.

Ahhhh this cracked me up :D (y)

As for spiders, I'm not keen but i don't kill them. I catch them in a special 'spider cup' i keep in the kitchen and chuck them out of the window. Pehaps this is as cruel as killing them though...it's a long way up from a bedroom window...and they don't have ickle spider parachutes.

Oh no. I'm evil.
