I don't care about football, but I tell ya this. English fans hated being knocked out, but they'd rather Italy won because they also hate France!

I agree - like I said - the english hatred of france goes back to the battle of agincourt. by comparison the england/germany, wwII/world cup '66 is a relatively new fledgling!

Nope I just live here and the majority of the English I talked to want Italy to win because they hate the French. They wanted the French to beat Portugal because of what happened but now, it's back to hating Franky.

Well, looks like you are doing a lot of ASS-U-ming.
-I work in this country but, I don't make my living from it.
-I don't dislike the country OR the people. I like being here.
-If I just leave I'll get thrown in prison... and I don't really WANT to leave yet.
-My opinion that what happened during the portugal/england game is that it was HILARIOUS! That's the way I feel about it. My English friends know that... they hate that I think that. They wanted France to beat Portugal because of it. Now they want Italy to beat France because, while France did what they wanted, they still don't like them.
-The food here sucks.

OK, I must admit that I am not an ardent soccer/futbol fan. I have watched some matches and truely enjoyed the experience of the World Cup. The constant crowd noise that sounds like static is amazing.

I do have a problem with Reynaldo and other players faking injury. Every time I watched a match the players were falling all over the place writhing in pain when they were barely touched. Reynaldo kept flopping to get fouls called or cards raised. This type of behavior is what we in America call being a SISSY. This part of the sport should be ridiculed. Flopping is sad and pathetic. Most of the players engage in this exercise of "Drama Queen Behavior". I played football (the pads and contact kind) in High School and when hit hard you were always told to get up and shake it off. Never roll around in agony unless you are really hurt.

I am impressed by the fitness, ballhandling and skill of the soccer players around the world but.......most need some shots of testosterone or they will grow tits or at least need large diapers.

Partly this is due to the importance of the games, and the closeness of it all. Like in the France game against Spain, Theirry Henry took a fall like he had been hit in the face, to win a free kick and get the other player a card. And from this free kick, France were able to score to take them ahead, and then to win the game.

In the domestic football leagues, this behaviour is much less common, and the refereeing allows for tougher challenges. But as the World Cup is the only tournament many Americans for example watch, they get the idea that the whole sport is like this.

So the World Cup is different from other league play? That seems a bit askew. I would think the officiating would be top notch for the creme de la creme of the sport. The Theirry Henry flop was very sad. How could they allow that call and gift wrap the win for France? I hope you are correct and flopping is not a huge part of the sport. This World Cup has been filled with guys rolling around like Marys.

But if your team is in the final stages of the World Cup, if you lose, you're outta there, and the World Cup title is probably the most important thing you'll ever be apart of, it's not hard to see why some players would do anything in their control to gain the advantage.

A domestic league game does not have the same pressure or importance for this to be the normal.

Oh, I understand your point. Thanks. It is a shame that flopping has been happening so frequently. I have gained an appreciation for the endurance and skill of the players. I just wish they would quit with the hystrionics.

that said, it still doesn't make it right. I'm hoping FIFA are looking at some sort of clamp down, video refs are the way to go. Works in rubgy league and hardly slows the pace of the game down. If players know their bullshit dives will be caught straight away it would stop a lot of it
