View Full Version : "Lighten Up" problem.

I have Check Your Head on the computer. I just listened to "Lighten Up", and it was fine except it had these two skips that messed up the first drums at the very beginning of the song. I downloaded another version figuring I'd replace it, but this one had lyrics, whereas the one with the skipping didn't. Could someone a little more familiar with this particular album (I've only heard a little of it) tell me which is the right version? If it's the instrumental, I'll deal with the skipping until I find a new one, but if it had lyrics on the proper album, I want to know which one to delete. Thanks in advance, I know it's a bit of a silly problem.

Meh. I don't usually get CDs too often. Money conquers all. I'd love to have them all on CD, but until I get some bread together, it's gotta be hardrive space.

Don't mean to get all preachy, but admitting on a public forum that you download music (unless it's from iTunes, Rhapsody, etc) is only going to make the greedy weenies at the RIAA even more paranoid and prick-ish.

And an FYI: this forum is owned by Capitol Records, the same company that legally owns the rights to the Beasties' music (except for LTI & some other older material).

But since many music companies are getting way too greedy & mistakenly seem to think EVERYONE is out to rip them off, knowing *your* rights as far as music buyers can help keep things in perspective (yes music customers still have rights....for now :( ):

BTW: many stores sell used CDs that work perfectly & they only cost from $5 to $8. And going to garage sales & resale shops can result in some awesome finds: a lot of people are selling off many - or all - of their CDs after ripping them to their computer or media servers. For some reason I guess they think hard drives, including the ones in most iPods and many other MP3 players, last forever: the average lifetime for a home PC drive is only about 3 to 6 years.

So unless they backed it up somewhere, man are they going to be pissed when that drive finally crashes and all that music is gone.

And on side note.........unless they encoded that music using more than 120kbps, the sound quality of the music will be very audibly less than that of a CD. So don't believe the marketing bullshit that all MP3s are "CD quality" - they are not. (audio geek alert! :) ) Actually, technically speaking *no* MP3/AAC/etc file is CD quality - to make such small files, these types of formats throw out music that the "average" human supposedly can't hear. This is why when many MP3s are played over a real audio system - JBL speakers, Pioneer receiver, etc - the music can sound like poo.

FYI: places like Wherehouse Music seem to sell the BBs albums pretty cheap: for example a new Paul's Boutique (http://www.wherehouse.com/music/product-detail.jsp?id=959343) is only $9.58 & I've seen it in the store priced that way (and no, I don't work for them).

And this site gets good reviews at other music forums I'm a member of (where me and other old farts my age hang out :D): www.yourmusic.com. All CDs are $5.99 w/free shipping but there's a catch, IIRC you have to order at least one CD a month (read the "learn more" page to make sure this hasn't changed). This company is owned by BMG, a major division of Sony, so it's legit. And yes, I'm very aware it was Sony who was at the bottom of that nasty CD copy protection root-kit fiasco (http://www.eff.org/IP/DRM/Sony-BMG/).
