Don't you get annoyed by them?

I had to take one today for the job I'm applying at, and so I went to a hospital, where they practically had me on lockdown, telling me I couldn't leave the building without giving a urine sample, and if I did leave, it would be considered a refusal.

So, the first time I attempted to urinate, I couldn't, as I already went before I left the house. I get told I have 3 hours to pee, and a half hour until I attempt it again, so I was DOWNING roughly 10 cups of coffee and water, respectively. A lot of liquids, let me tell you. By the time I was done, I was having the shakes, and I hadn't eaten anything today. The second attempt, though, I DID IT. I WON.

I got no prize though. ;(

I would wager that a company is not allowed to do that without some prior warning.

My God...i never had to give a urine sample...luckly... anyway years ago I was in the Police Station because of my boyfriend (he was drunk and he throw a dustbin against a car 'cause he was angry!) and I had to pee....so a police woman came with me into the bathroom... terrible!

I dunno, but I didn't receive one beforehand. I've worked there 2 years ago, so maybe they figured I already knew the routine, but I completely forgot about the same urine test.

AdRockGRL: That would make me feel so uncomfortable. It was bad enough that I had EXACTLY 4 minutes to attempt to urinate, or else I'd have to try again a half hour later. I felt like I was in prison.

its a lot easier when you're in the hospital with an iv pumping fluids through your body

Ugh, IVs, man I hate those. When I was in Greece a couple summers ago, I got pretty sick; I threw up repeatedly and had to go to the hospital to get an IV hooked to my arm since I was dehydrated. I believe that was the first time I've ever received liquids into my body via IV. The after effect felt unbearable. It's like whether you were trying to sleep or stay conscious, you felt woozy. It's hard to explain accurately. Kindof like being drugged.

I've had to give several urine test over the years for various reasons. I remember there was one place that would give you only a half hour. If you couldn't pee then they took that as a refusal and you didn't get hired for the job or you got arrested for violating your probation or something like that (I can't remember exactly where I was I just remember that you had a half hour to pee.)

However, I think I would be nervous had I had to do it for a job. Not because I take drugs, but because they could screen it for more than drugs and use it for the basis of discrimination. Let's say they find out that you're taking some prescription drug and think you'll be a liability to the company for the condition you are taking the drug for. Or what if you're on the pill or something and they discriminate because they see the elevated hormone levels and assume you're preggars or undergoing fertility treatment or something.

I'm the same way. Before I decided to go crazy with the coffee-binging, I was extra curious if I was supposed to drink it, but if they offered it to you in the waiting room, then it couldn't have been bad for the urine test obviously. Logic prevailed in the end.

While the whole process is uncomfortable and inconvenient, I respect that hospitals operate in a extremely sanitized fashion. Everyone stays safe and healthy that way.

Heh, that is odd, considering it's a hospital.
