...so I'm reading James Baldwin for the first time: If Beale Street Could Talk (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0440340608/sr=8-1/qid=1152816388/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-4816600-6114223?ie=UTF8), and it's terrific.

Anybody else read anything by him? Recommendations?

he was nothing but a faggot.

in college we read one of his stories,i dont even remember which one, the professor was a james baldwin dick rider and couldnt stop talking about him and so some caribbean chick with an accent goes "he was nothing but a faggot, a fucking faggot", i think she was mad cuz she failed an exam or whatever.

also read it in college... its probably what Cheese is referring to.

its about two brothers in Harlem in the 1950's...

the younger brother, Sonny is an aspiring jazz musician and gets involved with heroin...

the unnamed older brother, tells the story from his point of view and tries to steer his brother in the right direction...

Huh. I'm trying to remember whether Sonny Rollins messed with heroin or not.
