Some of you may remember my talking about my father's illness, which we learned of just over a month ago. Well, he passed away Saturday morning despite his fight.
If you'd like to humor me I'd be pleased if you would check out his obituary (http://dunes.cincinnati.com/announce/default.aspx?id=1704) and see how extraordinary he was. We are amazed at how many people, including his engineer colleagues at GE, are telling us he's the smartest person they've ever known.
I probably wouldn't be on this board if not for him because he passed on his passion for music by playing the Beatles and others from day 1 of my life. A few nights before he went he told my mom he wanted me to have his best set of headphones which I know were special to him for as long as I can remember. My eyes popped when my brother told me how much they are worth, I didn't know you could spend that much on ear goggles. They sound awesome and I'll think of him every time I use them.
Thanks to all those here who offered comforting words and advice upon hearing of his illness.

Now I know why you're such a perfectionist.
I'm very sorry for your loss. But he sounds like he got to do a lot of great things during his life. And he obviously contributed a lot of good to the world. You should be happy for him in that regard.

That is by far, the most touching obituary I have ever read. I loved the middle bit: "Thinker. Pursuer of proof of the Riemann hypothesis. Stargazer. Sharer of knowledge. Early adopter of computer technology. Gadgeteer, tinkerer, inventor. Holder of patents. Dog lover. Avid reader. Audiophile, record collector. Fan of the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Moody Blues. Cincinnati Pops and Symphony attendee and supporter. Master steak grillsman. Avid golfer, expert skier. Member of Crestview Presbyterian Church. Ohio State football fan. Player of games, especially chess, Texas Hold'em and Go. History and sci-fi buff. Concerned citizen. Possessor of a generous spirit and great sense of humor."
What an absolutely wonderful obituary. I'd feel so privileged to have known such a kind and gentle soul and wherever he is now, he must be radiant with pride to know what a fantastic daughter and person you are. I hope the days ahead are easy on you and your family. Take care and thank you so much for making that post. I was truly touched by it.

I can't say it better than enree.
My dad died almost 14 years ago. It's amazing how often my sister and I think of him. My sister has the old family camper and when she drives it, her hands squeeze the spots on the steering wheel where dad's hands made the plastic soft. At least once a month, something happens to me that I know my dad would have loved to hear about and I tear up. The good news is that the memories don't fade a bit.
If a dad did his job right, there's a very special bond between father and daughter.
