My brother saw a missile fly over his house yesterday:(
Everyone on his kibbutz was told to get all their papers together in case they have to go into the underground bunkers

I think WORST case scenario would involve an oil crisis and possibly (this is a stretch) a draft...but most likely wouldnt involve a world war.

it's true history always repeats itself.:( I don't know why we never learn.
I hope I get killed by a nuclear bomb, because think of the story when i get to heaven or hell. the poor guy standing next to me will be like, "yeah man, I choked on a fucking chicken wing..what happened to you?" and I'll be all "oh it was the apocolypse. the colors were so pretty!"
and then I want to be reincarnated as a new type of bacteria the forms on this planet after the nuclear holocaust. I got big plans. big plans.(y)

who has nuclear capabilities that would even bother attacking us?
Iran sure doesnt, North Korea might in a few dozen years but they basically did the military equivalent of throwing down a hand of bullshit cards after bluffing by launching missles and having them fail horribly.

China has full blow nuke capabiloty and if we did decide to squash the bullshit in North Korea, China would step in. Let's all be glad the missles didn't make it to Japan or anywhere else.
As to the middle east, it's not looking good and alot of it was tipped off by our actions in the region setting the stage for this. Let's pray cooler heads prevail... yeah I know, doubtful.

Jon Stewart predicted it yesterday. I'm going to wait to see how this plays out over the next year, and see how midterm elections go.
Otherwise it's Alberta for me. ;)

what good would moving to Canada do, exactly? assuming this causes some kind of economic topple and Canada is basically a bitch of the United States, if we crumble, they crumble.
also, China was in opposition with North Korea testing missles.

Well, I'd move to Canada for obvious reasons. Brett. And I live in the painful death zone outer limits of DC right now. It just seems to make sense.

why does an incursion by Israel lead people think WWIII is on the way?
wasn't the U.S. invasion of Iraq good enough?

I think it's frustration. At least, for me it is. Because I FINALLY thought there would be some progress with them getting the hell outta Gaza and making some concessions. But with this, it shows there has been no long-term plan for peace or negotiation, they're back to their old shit. To me, it signifies that there is no hope for the middle east to yield an inch and stay that way.

all of this talk reminds me of Iron Maiden's - Run to the Hills
White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes killed our creed
He took our game for his own need
We fought him hard we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came too much for Cree
Oh will we ever be set free?
Riding through dustclouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom the stab in the back
Women and children are cowards attack
Run to the hills, run for your lives
Run to the hills, run for your lives
Soldier blue in the barren wastes
Hunting and killing their game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good Indians are tame
Selling them whiskey and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old
Run to the hills, run for your lives

That entertained me as much the second time as it did the first. I am very much amused.

I don't think there will be a world war like the last two, with the huge superpower empires going at each other. I think probably there will be smaller-scale conflicts that involve the superpowers all involved in disputes of their own, but each of these will have some kind of impact on the others simply because human society is so globalized. The USA will have Iraq, Russia will have Chechnya or another ex-Soviet state, China will have Taiwan, India and Pakistan have each other, Israel has everybody else all around it, the UN and international bodies will have Afghanistan and Somalia. It will be like a world war, but without major alliances between the great powers because none of them really trust the others.
Lousy few years ahead, I think.

And because, with ever more automated killing devices, alliances are less and less necessary.

What the hell are you talking about? There's only 50 000 Jews in all of Asia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jews#Significant_geographic_populations) and more Jews in America than in Israel.

Depends on whether they let Bushy know the activation codes.
I think we're closer to the US losing it's Superpower status than WWIII. Soon the US will be "former imperialists" just like Britain -- probably about 2011 which just so happens to be the time the majority of Baby Boomers will eligible for Social Security and Medicare.
The latest Israel - Palestine flare ups are to be expected. Extremists want to freak out moderates and squash any chance for peace.
