A large number of Mexicans rallied yesterday to demand a recount in Mexico's Presidential election. Obviously no one knows how many; it's really difficult to estimate such a large crowd. But here's a typical description, this from the Los Angeles Times:

Police officials subordinate to the PRD-led city government said 1.1 million people took part in the daylong protest. Notimex, the semiofficial news agency of the conservative-led federal government, estimated 700,000 were present.

Now THAT's a protest.

Up to 48 Iraqis were killed and 60 wounded in a brazen bomb and grenade attack in a town south of Baghdad this morning, Iraqi officials said. It was one of the highest death tolls from a single attack in months on victims believed to be mostly Shiites, and it prompted a walkout in Parliament today of members in the legislative bloc of the radical Shiite cleric Moktada al-Sadr.

Rush Limbaugh goes over the top once again and is calling this conflict a gift to the neocons and to the world. Just try to imagine the kind of evil involved in this type of thinking.

And what is Limbaugh’s justification for calling the spreading devastation "a gift to the world"? For Limbaugh and others who share this delusional, genocidal view of the world, this is the ultimate "clash of civilizations." He is now saying that this war was "never intended to stop with Iraq." This is "finally" our chance to go after Iran. As he puts it, there will be no peace until one side finally defeats the other completely. I will leave to you the determination of precisely what such a defeat might entail, and how many people will have to die. And then, once the other side is finally defeated, "the winner must set the terms of surrender to the loser."

And then, finally, there will be peace — the peace of a graveyard…
