Hi there. I'm a vegetarian Beastie Boys fan from Central FL. Check Your Head was my soundtrack to high-school. Anyway, I'm researching an article on the fructiferous zone where vegetarianism and hip hop intersect. I've heard that the Beastie Boys are vegetarian, but I feel a need to establish the fact in a concrete manner. Can anybody point me towards some interviews or articles testifying to the Beasties' enlightened eating habits? It would really be appreciated. Also, if you know about any other hip hop artists who espouse a lifestyle of nonviolence I would love to hear about them.
Thanks!

MCA? Okay, thanks. I'll google that up.
Sorry if I posted in the wrong section. Maybe that explains the warm (scalding?) reception. I guess I should have sussed out the site a bit more before posting, but what the fuck, it's not like an Emily Post convention or something.

I hear Emily Post eats bean sprouts and gives good head.

Aww, don't take it seriously. They're just tryin to be funny and entertain eachother. :D The reason I thought MCA was vegetarian was because in the song Shazam he says "all this cheese is gonna make me cry" and why would all that cheese make him cry? Also it said it in some article that he was, but I don't feel like diggin it up. So yeah.
MCA is a peacenik so he must eat wheat grass.

Well, maybe they were tears of joy. Cheese has that effect on some people. I've been there myself.
Cheese has milk. What about the farmers yanking on their utters? It is cruelty I tell ya.

That's why I don't understand vegetarians! Why make that poor cow go through all that pain and suffering for nothing?! Drink the milk and enjoy the fruits of their labor! Eat that cheeseburger, it tastes good, and then the cow didn't die for nothin. If you don't eat the beef, then what's left of it? Just a hunk of dead cow layin there. Might as well...

Is there any relevant coherence? My guess is the rate of people who like hip hop and people who are vega is in a sort of balance. Or at least hip hop should not be any more stimulating to eat or to not eat meat than any other musical style..
But then again.. everything can be researched.

Well, that's what I'm trying to find out. It seems to me that there are more and more vegetarian hip hop heads out there. In Orlando, near where I'm from, there's a whole vegan hip hop community. (Check out nonsenserecords.com (http://www.nonsenserecords.com/)) Elsewhere in the nation, we've got KRS-One, Dead Prez, Common, Andre 3000, Michael Franti of Spearhead, Rage Against the Machine... so I don't think my query is completley out of the blue. I just wonder how deep this thing goes and where the Beasties fit into the trend (if one can call it a trend).
