dude. that's lame. santa clara is lame. not that it matters since the niners play like crap.
they said if plans for a new stadium fall through they'll go to Santa Clara. ohhhh. what a threat. I hate when teams pull this bullshit that they need a new multi million dollar stadium or they won't play crap.
we had to build our pussy Giants a new baseball stadium because Candlestick was too COLD. awe poor babies. too cold for baseball.

Aint shit in Sanat Clara except Great America, they be damn fools to move there over LA, Oakland (if and when the Raiders leave) or even Sac. Empty threats they can go to Vegas with the Kings they both can....I havent been happy with them since they let Jerry just go to O-Town (and have some great seasons there as well)

we had the same thing here with the pirates...
and now again with the penguins....but at least the pens have a legit reason to want a new arena because the civic arena is ancient and falling apart all over

exactly! damn fool move to let him go.
it's hard for me just because I grew up here in the heyday of the niners, when we had Montana and Rice and they fucking kicked ass all the time. So to see them slowly deteriorate over the years is kinda sad.
but I was thinking the same thing...what the hell is in Santa Clara? So many other major cities to choose from.

well candle stick is pretty damn old. and true it's down toward south San Fran on a foggy part of the penisula. I kinda feel they might also be jealous of location of the Giants Stadium. (I can't mention it by name cause I don't know what they call it now..use to be pac bell park, then SBC park.... the name changes every year. any way it's very nice and really convenient for san franciscans to get to it. So that why I think they want something new rather than renovate candlestick.

Well there is also plans to try and make this new Giants standium so big that they can possbily score the olympics in the near future...so 49ers are futher put on the backburner.

oh I see. that's what the hissy fit is about. makes sense. that would be 2 new stadiums for the giants and 0 for the niners. but hey man you gotta play better if you want new digs.
Santa clara. lol. why didn't they just say...oh yeah! well if you don't build a new staduim were taking the team to Lodi! would have about the same impact.

I grew up with the Team of the 80's and 90's Niners, too -- I have season tickets. And yeah, it was sad to see them let Rice go, but in today's NFL, most teams can't afford to let a great player retire gracefully unless he retires by their rules. I read the other day that Jerry might sign a 1 day contract to retire as a Niner.
Santa Clara is where the Niners have their headquarters. And, the majority of Niner fans who attend games drive from the SouthBay. Plus, many NFL teams -- Patriots, Giants, Jets, Lions, etc. -- don't actually play in the city, but in the suburbs. So, there is SOME logic to the threat.
Oh, and the Olympic stadium is planned for the Niners -- not the baseball stadium. Willie Mays Park -- what should be the name -- will not be rebuilt for at least 14 years -- at which point it will be 20 years old. But, the latest figure to rebuild the Niners stadium is $800 M, and the $100 M approved by voters was aimed at a mall/stadium complex -- plus it passed by a slim margin. This is all spin control to get that $100 M aimed at the new housing development / stadium plan without going back to voters.
Candlestick park is generally agreed to be the worst stadium in sports, and all 3 CA NFL teams play in the oldest stadiums in the league. Regardless, they need a new stadium.

Excellent insight and Rice (with Deion on Defense) is my fav. football player of all time

ok Mars, I was speaking without knowing the whole politics of it. I didn't realize the headquarters where there either, so now Santa Clara makes more sense. I thought it was kinda random, but I get it now.(y)
