There is a lost dog outside my house, and looks adorable. It belongs to someone, as it has a leash attached to its neck. I feel crushed watching it walk back and forth in front of my house. It's all shaggy, and I'm sure it's starving.

We called the police so they can come and pick it up. At least, at the pound, it will get fed properly so it can be healthy again. I hope they don't put it to sleep, ultimately. :'(

Do you feel the same way you see lost dogs or cats?

Yeah. I've got a soft spot for animals (except pigeons. I fucking hate pigeons. I like birds but I hate pigeons). I would have maybe put up some flyers first before I went right to the pound.

you can't go get the doggie yourself? give it some food and then take it to the shelter?

Or better yet, take it home, and if you don't want it, put an ad in the paper... "Lost dog, free to a good home." I've done this a bunch of times.

We weren't sure what to feed it. We also don't have any dog food handy, as we don't have pets of our own. The police already came and took it away. Hopefully someone will/can claim it.

my boyfriend found a little lost yorkie dog practically drowning in a rain puddle when he worked the night shift at this hotel. the dog was all matted and cold. So he brought it home. he said he thoguht it might have belonged to one of the homeless drug addicts that were always hanging around the hotel..in which case they really weren't taking care of it and shouldn't have it at all.

my dog got along with him fine..but my cat hated him. we kept the dog for a few days but I wasn't getting any sleep at night because everytime my cat ried to come inside to get her food the little dog would chase her away. and that was pretty unfair to our cat. Finally I broke down crying, and said we can't keep this dog and I was so upset because I was really afraid they might put him to sleep (perhaps for behavior issues he would growl and snap at some people). So my boyfriend called around and we found a no kill shelter to take him. they said they already had several people wanting a small dog like him and they would have him placed in a few days.(y)

well for future reference some raw hamburger would have been heathly for him, if dog food isn't handy. But really you are probably better not trying to take an animal you know nothing about. you don't know where he came from, if he was sick or if he had any aggressive temperment problems. so it is safest to call the authorities. if there is nothing seriously wrong with him and his temperment is good most shelters will make every attempt to place him. and with any luck maybe he'll end up with a better owner who won't let him get lost!

He became pretty excited around us--probably because he's been homeless for a couple days, suffering from hunger, and maybe scared. We didn't want to let him in the house because - A) Pets in the house have always been a no-no B) He'd stink up the house, and possibly tear up the furniture C) Like you said, he may be sick--carrying a disease, even D) We babysit my sister's kids here every day, and one of them is a baby, so we couldn't have an animal here, to begin with. We did have raw steaks, but decided to wait for the police in the end.

Truth be told, my dad was the one that called the police for them to pick the doggie up. If he hadn't been around, I dunno what I would have done...maybe leave it be. That's not a good way to be, I confess. Next time, if I'm the only one around, I will take the initiative myself, and see to it that the dog or cat gets proper attention.
