bush successfully stuck his finger up to millions of hopeful and sick people across the nation and world after he vetoed legislation that could have allowed federal funding for stem cell research. Bringing his promise to the table and slapping the faces of many who quite possible could have found a cure for many debilitating diseases like Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, Alzheimers, Parkinson's, and Cancer.
This man will bully his way to get billions for war (and death), but cannot open his heart to let science save the lives of many.

The vetoed bill "would support the taking of innocent human life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others," the president said, as babies cooed and cried behind him. "It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect." Each child on the stage, he said, "began his or her life as a frozen embryo that was created for in vitro fertilization but remained unused after the fertility treatments were complete. . . . These boys and girls are not spare parts."
BUT bombing living children into pieces in other countries is AOK!
what a christian you are bush, what a christian you are

I am so mad about this I have literally been a raving lunatic at home all night.
What gives them the right to decide what life is to be protected and what life isn't?
The government should be afraid of it's people, not the people of it's goverment.

Whatever your stance on the use of stem cells, this is barefaced hypocrisy of the most unabashed and ridiculous order.

this can't surprise anyone.
the GOP has to summon it's base...
it's election time.....
I don't know a lot about it - but what was the policy on gathering stem cells for the research?

But like I pointed out Orrin Hatch and Bill Frist voted FOR it, among many other Republicans.
""I believe that embryonic stem cell research and adult stem cell research should be federally funded within a carefully regulated, fully transparent, fully accountable framework, ensuring the highest level of respect for the moral significance of the human embryo," Frist said."

Plus, polls show that 70% of Americans are FOR stem cell research. (http://www.thebostonchannel.com/health/9527505/detail.html)
It seems like a really dumb move, in so many ways.

sadly their base is becoming overwhelmed with diseases that may be cured from stem cell research

Yeah, or being sent to Iraq.
I don't know a lot about it - but what was the policy on gathering stem cells for the research?
well, they find a pregnant woman, club her over the head, reach inside her and tear out the embryo, and then stomp on it until the stem cells pop out. we can't have that!
there is another process, but it involves skinning babies alive.
in all honesty though, i don't know either. good question. i don't know if the embryos are specifically created for sceintific research, or if they're embryos that happen to exist for some other reason, and then are taken up by researchers, or what. how many embryos would need to be sacrificed for the research?
i'm for stem cell research, no qualms about it (i'm pro choice too though, so no surprise there). but some of the arguments in favor of it kind of annoy me all the same, particularly the "it's just cells" argument...i really don't buy that there's no difference between the cells on your skin and the cells of an embryo, my skin cells aren't going to grow into another person. it's kind of silly to argue that, i think.
the president's speech really sickened me. the "we can't sacrifice innocent lives" schtick, the way he trotted out the children and babies onto the stage, blech. pure blech. get your filthy hands off my heartstrings you hypocrtical scumbags.
did anyone watch the colbert report last night (or i guess two nights ago)? one of the kids flipped him off :D
(thanks for the thoughts Bob)
Seriously though, does anyone know what the proposed policy was?
