Yes it's true, I've just become that mother that shares random unasked-for details about her child with strangers who in all likelihood don't really care.(y)

In other news, she projectile vomited at our baby massage class yesterday, and she has now officially grown out of all of her newborn clothes.

That's all for now.

I'd only consider it a real laugh if it happened after the projectile vomit.

If not, then it's just most likely gas:p

were you tickling her or did she just think you were worth laughing at? watch out, she thinks she's better than you.

that's great

My boy will put a piece of his food by your mouth, then take it back and put it in his mouth and laugh.
He really is a mini - me.

I was just talking jibberish at her. You know, much like I do here. She's been smiling a lot lately and she suddenly just gave me this big grin and let loose this really long chortle. It was brilliant.

Try being that father.

Btw, Ava can run fast. Very fast. I'm pretty sure she's the fastest 1 year old I've ever seen. Ever.

I love that. I will bet that every single time your little Mathilda smiles, you will have this same gleeful reaction. You'll feel it inside.

I know that I still feel it and react to it when I see my kid smile this one particular heart-achingly warm smile that reaches his eyes and there is pure joy in it and when he does that, I see him looking like his tiny baby-self again. And then I smile that sort of smile in reaction to his smile. Every single time and it's been about 20 years since he debuted that smile.

I promised myself I wasn't going to cry.:o

I know exactly what you mean. My some has a regular laugh, then he has a belly that sounds exactly how it did when he was a baby. It's distinctive. I could pick it out from any other laugh because I hear it with my heart.

How do express what I feel so well? You are a blessing.:o Maybe it's because I am an absolute sap when it comes to being a mother and to interacting with people on those special levels, you know? Even after these bunches of years with my kid, it's still a sort of weakness for me and it still amazes me. It's why, I think, I've always said that I learn so much more from him than I give to him. I still get astounded at the depth of this parent-kid relationship. If you want it, you can go in really long and deep. You can parent (or even just interact with pepole) on the surface and make sure they're safe and warm and comfy and stuff, but wow what you're missing.

mommy-talking is a whole freakin' discipline, ya know. motherese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motherese). wrote many an essay on that isht at university for developmental psychology. you'd be a great experiment! now, will you help me challenge that feral child hypothesis?

no, really, I'm so happy for all the parents here. Maybe I'm just a sucker for punishment but I really want to be a dad. Seriously, I think I'm cluckier than some women at times.

There is no shame in wanting to be a dad, I was the exact same way. Out of all the things I have called, my favorite is "Dad".Ahhh, it reminds me of the tribute that a friend paid to another friend at that friend's funeral. He was this amazing guy--multiple PhDs and this phenomenal brain and crazy capacity to connect with people. Real love of life. But he got sick and died and it never got to his spirit. He volunteered, developed and taught grad-level courses, researched and wrote reports and books, ran road races (in the last few years, he ran from a wheelchair), he coached something like 20 seasons of little league. He was just great and sweet and such a people-person. Anyway, at his memorial, that friend said something about how he was all of those things: a PhD and a Professor and a Husband and a Pilot and an Advisor and a Researcher but he never let anyone use any of his titles except for one: coach. That was the one he always said that he was the most proud of having earned. I loved that.

that is adorable.

My Mom is a young Mom, and didn't have her second child until I was 14. So I was able to watch my brother grow up from the time he was born, and now he's 8, sitll growing. My childhood best friend just had baby number 3. And my other best friend had her baby almost 10 months ago now and I've seen him get so big! And more aware of his surroundings, laughing, reacting, he's starting to work his way to walking :)

just watching their growth is amazing (y)

it made me laugh out loud. actually it made me giggle out loud, I'm still giggling. like a baby.

sometimes my mom looks at me adoringly and says, "ha ha, I grew you in my belly and you're a live person, isn't that weird?" then she tries to smooch me and squish me.

Please explain?
Maybe she thinks it sounds like dialogue that an emotionally void lead character (played by Ben Affleck) would utter during a moment of weakness midway through a Jerry Bruckheimer-produced summer blockbuster.

But when I see the smile on those little kids face I just know they're getting ready to jab me with something.

Congrats Peachy! There is nothing like the sound of your child's laughter. Especially if it's right after you cut loose a monster fart.

I remember the first laugh, but that's because I took a picture of it and marked it in the baby book.

Now, while we're knee deep in second one's laughs, the first one is more up for a challenge. It's not all projectile vomit and blurry eyed laughs for long, so enjoy and remember. :)

PS. I haven't hit REM sleep for 3 weeks, so forgive me.

LOL kind of, actually! No where near as long though.

She hasn't done it again, but since she's being so consistently generally adorable, I don't mind - all in good time.
