I don't care how much Sublime has been co-opted by corny frat-boy douchebags, it sounds fuckin awesome if you're burning one down. The two-disc Sublime gold is glorious no matter how many times you've heard it.

For real. I thought I had every single tidbit that was released, unreleased, rare, whatever. Just when you thought they'd milked it for all it was worth. I'm a Sublime fan though, so I can't complain.

Yeah, I wasn't really a fan until I got 40oz to Freedom. It's really the group's magnum opus - I dont care if their self-titled was more commercially successful. Joe Sublime-Hater usually hasn't listened to that album hardly at all.

bitch please, kids act like that dead fuck from sublime was some kind of reincarnation of Bob Marley. Dudes voice is annoying as hell, and no one would know who they are if it wasnt for the fact that he is decomposing.

Very not true. I liked them ever since I saw the Date Rape video on Da Box back in da day.

Also, I thought Bradley had a beautiful voice. That's right. I typed beautiful.

Date Rape is moderately amusing.

bottom line, Sublime sucks. End of discussion.

Never understood why they were big...always thought they were ridiculous without even hearing much from them.

What I Got got them the hard asses. I watched it happen. Before that, they weren't too mainstream.

The funny thing is... they weren't catering to them. It got out of hand... like B-boys with Fight For Your Right (????).

It's not my favorite track by them. I'm a fan of Right Back, Pool Shark (Acoustic), 40 Oz to Freedom (Da track), Bad Fish. Peep those joints. If you still think they suck, then alright, I tried.

Yeah, like I said 40oz blows their other stuff out of the water most of the time. I rarely even listen to their self-titled all the way through.

Frat boys can shut up - I don't care.

From Yellow Submarine? No - it's H.E.L.P.eR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.E.L.P.eR.) from The Venture Brothers. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venture_Brothers)

i'll admit, i liked 40 oz. to freedom when i was a junior in high school. and their self-titled when i was 14. haven't listened to either since then though.

I'm a big fan of Robin' the Hood, myself. Though 40oz is my second fav.

Never a more untrue statement.

It's kinda amazing seeing all you bboy fans dissing Sublime. I always thought Sublime had a lot in common with the Beasties. Both bands have a lot of different/similar influences and it reflects in their music and with similar styles with the whole rap/punk thing. 40 oz. is a great album and, I thought, really showed their potential. As far as the frat boy image, i never saw it that way but I was out of college by the time I first saw them play(backyard party in 1993).

3 piece bands rule!

Agreed. Any big fan of the Beastie Boys should be able to appreciate Sublime's music(Especially their early work).

they have that same cut and paste/sample style as the bboys and have just as equally ridiculous lyrics as well. i don't see how anyone from here can not appreciate them. the only thing that really bugged me about the band were all the drug themes and references. and i don't ever remember the jocks/frat boy types liking this shit. i was a freshman when sublime came out and all the skater dorks and potheads liked them not the jocks. the jocks were into dmx, limp bizkit and wu tang. shit like that

Is Sublime now another one of these bands that threaten to divide and tear the fabric of the BBMB Other Music forum? Kind of akin to whenever an unsuspecting 13 year old starts a Green Day thread. ;)

I still love 'em but I do see how they can be seen as a 'fratboy band.' It's like, I love Coldplay, but because of their 14-year-old girl followers, it's really kinda gay to say you love them.

Whatever. I love Sublime and I love Coldplay. Fuck you all.

The 'jocks' were into the grunge/punk/popular rock music back when I first became a Sublime fan.

It's funny that you mention that skaters and stoners were the ones who mainly listened to them, because I was neither. Hell, there were only a few folks that actually listen to them at my old high school, but the people that did were avid marajuwana smokers(among other things). Though the appeal of their music to stoners is obvious, even among people who aren't into those sort of things. Still, though, even if you don't smoke pot, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy songs like "Smoke Two Joints," or "Let's Get Stoned."

I owned their self-titled CD and thought it was pretty good.......until I ran out of money at college & had to sell it and some other good CDs* for gas so I could get home for Thanksgiving :( .

Though I have to agree with Burgler:
the only thing that really bugged me about the band were all the drug themes and references.

I don't do any of that stuff (really!), but other than that liked what they sung about.

* and this album (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1011455&style=music&cart=367230233&BAB=E) by Sugar & a MMBosstones CD (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1055912&style=music&cart=367230233&BAB=E). these were among a slew of CDs I bought when I realized that you don't HAVE to listen to the music you grew up with for the rest of your life - holy shit what a relief that was. And being at college again (I was 32 at the time) helped a lot to reinforce that attitude

It can be lame to have the "wrong fans" be into the bands you like, but honestly, that sort of stuff is beyond anyone's control (that is, unless the band in question deliberately changes styles to weed out these so-called "undesirables").

All you can do is enjoy the bands you enjoy for your own personal reasons -- idiotic fans be damned.
