rarely, do celebrities use their riches to help the rest of the world, but he is one of the few. he gets on his jet, flies to beirut, and evacuates 200 british citizens. granted, it wasn't like opening an orphanage or anything, but every little bit helps, especially in current events. his actions pissed on all celebrities who talked about the conflicts in the middle east, yet go back to their luxurious lifestyles.

edit: my apologies if this has been posted already. i can't keep up with you guys. i did try searching for his name in the search, but only a music thread came up.

I have been to the Dickinson family's home; his wife and I took a class together years ago in the states and we had dinner over theirs when we moved to the UK. They're nice people. Shame we lost touch.

That's amazing. There are people who think that people who things like that are foolhardy--like he would have been better to have donated the funds or the resources and let someone else do it. Probably by the time he would have done all of that, it would have been too late. When people get involved personally like that--when they take a chance and bypass a system and do what they feel compelled to do, that's when it becomes a great thing to me. What he did touched and inspired people in ways that the other gestures maybe wouldn't have.
