I heard about http://www.whatsonmybookshelf.com the other day from digg.com and I signed up. Man, I could get addicted to this pretty fast.

Basically you just put your books you don't want up for mailing points and then spend those points on books that other people have put up. I just upped a couple books I didn't like...now I'm getting a hardback "Catcher in the Rye" and "Girl, Interrupted" mailed to me. (y)

Yeah, I just upped that book. :)

I started to read it...but it was kind of meandering and predictable without really being insightful. I guess I wanted to read a book about a skater kid who's intelligent and offers new perspectives - but it was just about a skater kid who's a skater kid.

I bet a lot of dorks with beards will use it to trade books by Charles Bukowski and Ayn Rand so they can discuss them later over coffee.

that reminds me of zunafish (http://zunafish.com). Except there it's movies and stuff. I've had decent luck on it.

Good deal/idea with a book site too.

fuck that, It makes me suffer over alot of trust issues just to lend books to my friends and my mom

I mean for my book collection to get bigger and bigger, not just change with the seasons

Um, you don't get the books back. It's a permanent trade sort of thing. There's one for movies, music and games like zunafish called Barter Bee (http://www.barterbee.com/) that my roomie messes with.

I get it dawg, I was just trying to say that I dont get rid of books once I read them, even if it were to trade them for an even better book

I said that I barely even let my books out of my sight once I read them because I love them that much

I used to keep all my books, but I'm getting rid of most of them now. It's liberating. I'm even getting rid of some that I meant to read someday. :p

(and I still can't throw away an LP even if I have two copies and one is in dreadful shape  )

Oh oh ooooohhh. Yeah, sorry. I do that too - but only with books I love. The only 2 books I'm giving away so far I could do without/never really read them. If I had more room I'd probably make an effort at collecting real books.

i like to mess around with tape trader (http://www.tapetrader.com) sometimes to try and find some good live recordings.

sadly, the only person who asked to trade with me had nothing but reo speedwagon and a couple journey DVD's
