I just went down to my local indie shop and they were selling AIFST a day early (wish I knew this earlier). It is not labled "special two-disk edition", but has a sticker on the artwork (yes, under the clear plastic), on the front that says, "LOADED with 2.5 HOURS of EXTRA FEATURES!"
The back is the "beach shot" with mike and the girl that mirror each others dance (lucky girl). It lists features as: Full-length 'Grid' Alternate Angle, World Tour Intros and Shout-Outs, A Day In The Life Of Nathanial Hornblower Featuring David Cross, Jerome Crooks' Angry World, Band Commentary, A Cappella Vocal Tracks, Special 'Hidden Detours' Feature, Oh Yeah, And The Movie Trailer With The Cool Hollywood Voice-Over. It does not list Never Stop Rapping Yet or the BBQ thing. (See below)
The description is taken from Flaunt Magazine where Flaunt calls it the "Challah At Your Boy Tour" and says they distributed a mix of fifty DV and Hi-8 cams. (Yes, they quoted the magazine directly and so left these mistakes with no [SIC].) And interestingly, besides Lionsgate, Oscilloscope Laboratories, myspace and ThinkFilm, it's appearantly in association with VH1 as well. It is rated R for language and the running time given is 1 hour 29 mins. (How do they arrive at that?)
The cover, at least on mine, has no "Awesome; I Fuckin' Shot That!" alternate side. The instruction guide is reminscent of a camcorder guide, does say "Awesome; I Fuckin' Shot That!" and is subtitled "A Guide To Enjoying This DVD". The back of the guide has a plan of MSG with the camera operator's names and the kind of camera being used (Hi-8, 24-P, Surveillance, Beta, Video EIC, 720p HD).
I gotta go eat pizza and watch now. More at 11.

kick -ass! does the grid format let you know who shot what?
That woulda been a good idea, but no. The grid format also changes from the kind we all saw in the theater (with the black bars separating the shots to a smaller grid with bigger shots with little or no separation). The menus are a camcorder book on a Formica table (with fake wood grain) that flips pages. I've looked everywhere and I don't see the BBQ thing. The "Jerome Crook's Angry World" bit follows (we find out that their bad-ass body gaurd is the JC who'll send you out a FedEx) him around as he razes the crew.
The commentary is not that bad. Very much them rambling, but droppin' a few tid bits here and there. The intros and shot-outs are a nice "value-added" feature. What's up with Slipknot? I thought the asked goatee-metal-rap to say goodnight? It would have kicked ass (and taken 100 DVDs) to be able to watch the action from each individual camera in addition to or from the grid. I haven't tried the Detours or A Cappella feature yet.
I'm tired, my eyes are tired and that's all I can remember right now. I'll be back with more when I take a nap. But sure as hell, I'm goin' to Best Buy to get my damn BBQ tomorrow.

so from what I am gathering JC is the bodyguard who is featured in Pootytang's adventure? (or is he the one who leads them out of the dressing room in the opening scene?)... nice way to link all of this together...

But I haven't heard of anyone finding Pootytang's VW adventure on the DVD. :(

I wish I knew the BBMBers better (especially in this case by face). I've been a member since early 2004 (I lost my account info and had to start a new one. Dont ask.), but I've been a bad, bad boy and have mostly been a voyeur. If I did, I'd be able to tell you. It seems that a lot of the shout outs were international.

I'm sure you're right. The Jermoe (Mike looks right at him and refers to him as JC and asks about a FedEx) on the video is snarky and punches the camera a lot, so I figured bouncer. I don't know about Pootytang's adventure; can you point me to it? In the commentary, Mike does ask Yauch directly about the message board. They're watching the part where one of the camera operators known as "get excited, this is for the DVD", all three raz him and Mike asks if he's checked the message boards to see if anyone knows who he is. Does anyone know?

Just got back from Best Buy. (Check the Chappelle thread for bad news.) The extra DVD "Gratis Textiles" is in the box. Everything's the same on the cover except the bar code has a Lionsgate proof of purchase and the barcode's been restickered (it covers part of the description) and it has a security sticker inside (the regular one didn't). I'll file another report soon.

I just got back from Best Buy also. I was so determined to open it up to check it out, I didn't even listen to the price I was charged and they didn't give me the sale price .. so I have to go back after work bleh
I'm kinda pissed that the cover isn't reversible.
I knew there would be a "operations guide" but I thought there'd be more to the insert then what there is.
Love the location guide on the back, I had started to do my own from the boards awhile back.
Super pissed that I thought my computer here at work had a dvd player, and it doesn't =o(
I'm just sitting here with it on my desk waiting in anticipation to check it out.

What I got on the bonus disk is tomfoolery on coke. I think I finally get it. Stop listening so much, lay off the message boards and go do something creative because goddamn I spent $24 to watch someone's home videos. I'm not dissin', I'm just sayin'. If it weren't the Bboys this stuff wouldn't have gotten a second play on YouTube. That's okay. I've been drawn in by the great shit they've done over the years and then I'm handed a $24 lesson today -- go out and do your own shit and stop wasting another second watchin' this. Yeah, I could come up with some shit that I got to see them as people, that the BBQ thing was a better insight into who they are as people than the hundreds of interviews I've read, seen and watched over the years, but on balance that's it. I can hear them saying, "We didn't force you to buy it. We've been saying, 'Don't be afraid to be yourself.' for how many years now. It's not that the extras were shit, but it's a few people have said over the years (Alan Light maybe), "The remarkable thing is that's just how me and our friends are and if we'd just put aside our social graces, we could have been the beasties too."

Yeah for real. I got to best buy before it was even open and there was a crowd there, which I sorta wasn't expectin. I was glarin at them all 'cause I thought they'd booty check me and steal all the dvds but they didn't, I'm just paranoid.
Anyway, right when I got home I watched everything on both disks. And I gotta say, it is sooo nice to hear and watch them again! MMM and the Beastie Boys are cool as fuck! I saw it in the theater and it's even better the second time because I saw things that I missed. It also sounded GREAT on the stereo with the bass and volume high. Yeah I was dancin. :D I was also excited about seein the grid thing and all the angles and hidden detours, those are fun!
The extras were really good and funny as hell, just as I expected. I liked the never stop rappin thing, and I agree with that drunk guy "Never stop rappin yet!" I was crackin up so bad at some of the fans, the Beastie Boys have some great fans. Also the intros were badass! I never knew MMM was such a gangsta, that shocked me! The first thing I watched though was the band commentary, I donno why but it's so entertaining and I'm always interested in what they got to say. I loved how Adrock kept spazzin out and makin funky weird noises. (y) Plus the Jerome's Angry World thing was priceless, damn he gets mad a lot but it's funny. I'll be sure to never laugh though man, scare the hell outta me! On the second disk was the shazam video (with 8 different angles) and Mike and Adrock's remixes which was dope. And the BBQ tv pilot thing which is hilarious! And Mike's the referee, I also thought that was weird since they were cookin meat, but I guess he doesn't care if other people eat it as long as he don't. That's cool. I'm really glad I got the one with the bonus disk though, I'll definitly be watchin this again...and again and again and again...well that's my review, best dvd ever!
BTW TPK and Minton made it on the dvd! I was like "Whoo message board represent!" Also when I saw Cey Adams I freaked out! At the end of the BBQ thing it'll go blank and won't go right back to the main menu for a while, that's because some funny ass shit will be comin up. I was about to go "What the fuck the disks messed up" but then it came on and I was like "ohhh" k I'll shut up now. Damn that was long. :o I guess I coulda summed it up by sayin "AWESOME!!!"

For people who only know Jamie from the cook off, I'd like to point out that Jamie had a difficult job on the tour because he was the face of the band -- the guy all the craziest of fans met when we were at our worst (waiting in line in the hot sun or pouring rain). He was just the nicest guy they could have gotten to interact with us and get us to do stupid things on camera. He also did a killer job trying to keep up with the Beasties during the show on his action cam. And he was on top of the tour blog -- that setlist was up before I ever got back from a concert. Nice to see him get some time in front of the camera. (y)

let me break it down... billy was the guy who got banned... he was wearing a milarepa shirt at the show and was a real cool guy... according to the guide he was camera 28... he came here during the Solid Gold Hits/Brass monkey release and started going off about everyone buying the SGH collection as "sheep"
he said his footprints were all over the dvd, as he was the one in brass monkey who says "get on the dvd".. i tried to get him to calm down, but he ruflled some feathers and dude got banned... i saw him at the screening in january and congratulated him for getting on the dvd... we didnt talk about him getting banned from here... its all so trivial now...
this dvd is fucking sick man, sick...
p.s. when you are in grid squad mode, in the beginning, there is a shot in the hallway when Jon Doran says "You can rock out... etc. etc" I'm the dude in the white beastie t-shirt /astros hat/jeans and red nikes!

Dude, I'm beginning to think this is like the Beatles White album where Richard Hamilton (a pop artist) had the album stamped with a serial number. He thought it was ironic to have it be limited editions of something that was going to be stamped millions of times.
Yeah, one person claims to have gotten a copy with a reversible cover and a cardboard sleeve (UK), I just looked at the two I bought (one with and one without the extra DVD), and the one without has a serial number on the spine the one with doesn't. Beastiemania is going to have its work cut out for it when trying to catalog all the different versions.
As far as I could tell, the only way to know that my copy from Best Buy had the extra disc was from the sticker on the front. So I really doubted it would be inside the case, but there it was in it's own little flip floppy thing. My copy has a flimsy paper cover inside the plastic case. I haven't seen a UK DVD case. Maybe they're different and allow for more exciting cover art? And the brits have alway been better at advertising/marketing than us, so it's appropriate for them to have a better case.

The bonus disc isn't worth stressing out over if you didn't get it. It's a decent extra, but don't buy a second copy for it if yours doesn't have it. The barbecue is kind of entertaining but I can't see myself watching it again anytime soon, and the Shazam music video is pretty cool at first but by the time you've watched all four takes with all four versions of the song the novelty is sort of worn off. These are just basically things that didn't make it onto the DVD because they aren't all that great.
I payed like $12 Canadian for it though :p

I got the one without the extra DVD at a local indie record shop (Criminal Records) and the one with the extra DVD at Best Buy. I just ran out and checked Borders, Barnes & Noble and Target. They all have ones that appear to not have the extra DVD (at least they're not marked as such). However, they all have the Lionsgate proof of purchase and the one I got from Criminal has a regular barcode. I know this is such minor shit, but I do wonder what's behind the manufacturing differences. Obviously, now that I think about it, the one from Best Buy probably had a different barcode stickered over the original because of the extra inside (to identify it/track sales?) The other differences, who knows. To me they're all minor (I'm just a visual nut), but what I wish I could get is the one where you can flip the cover and it reads: "Awesome; I Fuckin' Shot That!". I like the orginal title because of how it came about, that it was one of two movies this year to cause controvesy (the other being "Motherfucker" a movie about the origin of the word), that it uses slang, etc.

I gotta agree. If you're a collector and a completists, sure. They were entertaining to watch through once, but I'll probably not watch them again either. It was cool to see them in their everyday life (BBQ) interacting with friends, not fuckin' with the press. It was a different take than usual.

and the band commentary i looked forward too, i just like hearing them talk, even when they go off in weird places & start talking whatever, i like that. the part with mike & the girl dancing i think it's the best part (awww though mike wasn't too into it) and that guy who kept saying "get excited, get on the DVD!" --fast forward-- get excited y'all!!! --fast forward-- get excited ! haha he sure sounded excited for them all :P
'never stop rappin' yet' & the intros were the best! so i see how much MMM goes through to begin the show. wild wild west style.
yeah so just everything people have said, it's so much greater, you just have to see it all for yourself :)
so overall.....
best dvd ever!
word (y)
holy shit i was just typing this and a preview was showing for the AIFST dvd on my tv! dude.....vh1. =)

shazam vid: costumes/weird camera angles---been there done that......i wonder how many sets of bboy figures they have? and is that a licensed beastie rc car.....or just a regular one with a beastie sticker.......
bbq pilot: interesting but drawn out......the adrock commentary reminded me of the HN informercial......the only reason i watched it cuz i though mike was gonna eat a hamburger or something at the end......but that was a big NO!
i dug the show intros.....they were funny.....tpk and minton are lucky kids......hope they realize that!
the fan intros were funny.......seeing kids from other countries bboying it up is nuts......mike talkin to the (oblivious) kid on his birthday was funny.......
like alcamus said......i probably won't watch it (2nd disc) again.....but after 20 years, you gotta buy and see it all......it's almost routine.....
i'm looking forward to the band commentary and detour stuff!

Word to klepto! Haha, yeah I saw the commercial last night when I was beggin my dad for the money, so I didn't have to pawn my PS2. He watched it with me too and nodded his head the whole time, so I guess he likes them again. Cool I converted my dad! My little brother laughed the whole time during A day in the life of Nathanial Hornblower and when Intergalactic (his fav song) came on he ran in the living room and started dancing like a robot, which cracked me up. So cute. :D

My favorite part is watching the credits in grid mode... then seeing each camera shut off one by one... my girlfriend made the final cut! and the encounter with rniebling was at the end of the credits, we turn our cameras on each other and then I turn mine on myself and I sign off...
This has been an amazing journey , from Saturday October 9th, 2004, to the screenings in January and March, and finally today, waiting made it so much better, and I havent even watched the complete movie with commentary or different angles...
This message board gave me the greatest chance to be a part of something that I always dreamed about. I moved to New York City with a dream to meet the Beastie Boys someday, and that dream finally came true...
Heres to all the other camera operators, Lyneday, DirtyPete, rniebling, Ponce De Leon, and everyone else who made this project something special..
and to everyone who posts here, keep it real... I just got back from my 10 Year High School reunion so I'm feeling the love...

Wow YoungRemy, I almost feel like crying now. Congradulations to you and good work! Seriously, how sweet is that? Every fans dream is to be involved with something like that. I got that same feeling when the movie ended, I donno just something about that sorta layed back song but the hyped up crowd still yelling gave me a surreal feeling like it's the end you know. A great concert leading all the way up to a great dvd and it was released today! Today's a special day man! Whoa, I'm gettin all emotional up in here. Damn Yauch's good.

About the second disc, it's kind of funny how we all put so much into getting that little bit of extra content. I bought SGH just to have DVD copies of the LTI and TT5B videos and to see a sneak peak of AIFST. I bought a UK import of Ch-Check It Out for like $2 less than I payed for TT5B itself just because it had a b-side AND the music video on it (waste though, I could have bought the Canadian single for like $4 and then watched the video online).
It's just how it is as a Beastie Boys fan. You just have to have everything. I didn't really have any reason to buy the vinyl anthology but I did. I even bought an old record player and got it working again to enjoy it. I almost bought the australian version of TT5B that had an extra song on it and an uncensored "Hey Fuck You" on the back... but I decided against it. I was being a tourist in London and stopped by the Virgin Megastore and saw it for like 20 pounds. That's $40, too much for one song and an uncensored back cover.

I still think the SGH dvd was totally worth it for all the video angles. And I think the AIFST dvd plus the bonus disk for 17 bucks is worth it too. Your right about having to have everything though haha. I was the same way with pokemon, but this is waaay better. :D

Is each camera in the same spot for the whole show when you watch it in grid mode? I saw myself at the end after they walked off stage, but haven't watched the whole movie in grid mode yet.
Too bad you can't zoom in on a particular one .. that would have been dope. I'll have to watch it 60 something times so I can watch each camera one at a time.

I can do that with my remote, but it's not good quality with a small screen like mine...

I love in the BBQ sports talk when Adam is talkin' dry rub or sauce with Cey and he says, "Well, I actually like white wine better". I've been on a rant about this lately because everyone's on the red wine snob tip. "Oh, I don't drink white." "Oh, I only drink red." I kept noticing this for about the past year. I had a friend over recently that refused a glass of wine I'd bought especially for the occasion because he said, "Oh, my entire family is Italian and we don't drink white." So, I googled "red wine snobbery" and sure enough, there's several newspaper articles and sites documenting this snob trend. Thanks, Adam, for speaking to this shit. I'm sick of snobs.
