Yeah, there aren't too many county fairs in the middle of the hood. They sound like fun. Being from the South Side of Chicago, I don't think I 've ever been to one.

what about those ones that they set up in big parking lots...with rickity old rides and carnes and stuff. I guess that's more carnival but same difference.

Are county fairs like in 'Grease' at the end when Olivia Newton John and John Travolta dance on that thing which is all wobbly then fly off in a car?

 ok so I'm a po-dunk country girl I guess. So county fairs are the thing of rural communities or a bi-gone era?
A fair is a gathering of people to display or trade produce or other goods, to parade or display animals and often to enjoy associated carnival or funfair entertainment. Activities at fairs vary widely. Some are important showcases for businessmen in agricultural, pastoral or horticultural districts because they present opportunities to display and demonstrate the latest machinery on the market.
Fairs are also known by many different names around the world, such as carnival, fete or fête, county or state fair, festival, market and show, etc.

Ha, I used to be into house music and trance and such back in the day (1999) so I used to go to the fair and load up on cheap glowsticks. They had aqua ones, which were pretty rare around here. I bought a crapload, even the little mouth glowsticks, and I was playing around with one in my mouth (if you stick them in your cheeks, it lights up your mouth when you talk and looks fuckin' sweet) and my friend was making fun of me for it. Later, when she saw other people on the fairgrounds doing it, she did it too.
My best memories from the county fair was working there. For my high school, you can't graduate without doing 40 hours of community service. I knew some people that worked at a BBQ joint, so I volunteered my services there. I got tips and free food and free admission to the fair, and all my other friends were pissed because they had to do shit like clean up highways.

You gotta win the little ones before you can win the big ones. At least, here you do. You gotta win three little ones, then trade them in.
My best guy friend from high school won me a little clown doll. I kept him on my nightstand and loved him dearly. Then I found out the entire time I was fawning over the clown doll, he was probably being pounded in the ass because he's gay and never even had a crush on me.

I think my favorite thing about the fair when I was a kid was that fact that was like the only time a year when my mom would just hand me money for nothing. I remember my cousins and I would all get like $20 and they'd just set us loose on the games and rides. It was fun.

We have street fairs, not so much county fairs. They'll close down a few city blocks, local artists will come set up booths, local bands...beer tents, beer gardens. The food is always the same though funnel cakes, churros...

Dude, we saw MONSTER TRUCKS! the GRAVE DIGGER was there. but to be honest the show was kinda lame. We were all a bit dispointed. but it was fun.
my boyfriend did win me a stuff animal! he cheated and it was so cute!:D
I ate fudge. choclate and peanut butter fudge.
I liked the goats and the bunnies best. oh and the baby pigs. Goats are reallly fun to talk to, they look at you like they are actually listening to you and they understand.(y)

I went to the fair in Placerville (CA bout 30mins from me) with my fam since my pops had to recruit students and what not for his work, have to say it was pretty good just for a cheap fair (the main State on is in Sac in Aug.) in the boondocks. I should go to the state one been 3 years since I last went.....

I love the rides and hate the fact that they are way overpriced, but sometimes I cannot help myself.
I love facepainting! I don't care what age I am, I'm getting paint on my face, damn it.
I actually never tried funnel cake until about a year ago. That stuff is so, so very good. I'm happy I cannot find it on a regular basis. I'd be 400 lbs.
Oh yeah it's fun to clown on the carnies! I think I get the most out of the huge daquiris though. That and touching vagina in the ferris wheel.

county fairs have that white trash appeal you just can't get at other amusement parks.
the whole portability of everything adds to its charm. all the rides fold up and are towed around. some heavy metal dude assembled that ride while blaring ac/dc: back in black for the hundreth time, shortly after he cranked some speed or other illicit narcotic.
my favourite carnival ride is the zipper.

We have lots out in the burbs of Chicago. C-level acts come through. I've seen Rick Springfield, Charlie Daniels Band, 10,000 Maniacs, Loverboy. Fun times.

Charlie Daniels Band is no C-Level act!
People say I'm no good and crazy as a loon
Cause I get stoned in the morning and I get drunk in the afternoon.
Any band that starts a song with those lyrics is on the A-List.
.....and I would pay top dollar to see Loverboy and Rick Springfield but I would need to high on wiffle dust.

If they're playing small time county/city fairs, and there is no admission fee for the "fans" then that puts them in a C-level category.

Shit, you're Fairfax? I work kinda sorta not really near you. Like, 20 minutes away. But still.
Jimmy's Chicken Shack played our county fair before they became one-hit wonders.

Hey, don't placate me. Why do you have fans in ""? You have to pay to see these bands in addition to admission to the fair. Charlie Daniels is redneck heaven.
Kinda like my old blue tick hound
I like to lay around in the shade.
And I ain't got no money
but I damn sure got it made.
'Cause I ain't askin' nobody for nothin'
if I can't get it on my own.
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long haired country boy alone.

Sorry for the placatementness. Nope...there is no admission to most of the city/village fairs. And maybe only $5 to the County Fair. And I put the fans in "" because some folks may be there for the free entertainment and may not be actual fans of the artist.
I enjoy Charlie Daniels, Rick Springfield, and Loverboy just as much as the next guy.
