Sometimes it's a wonder why anyone bothers to trust anyone else.
I'd like to think that all people deep down are good, honest people. It's a long story, and it wasn't something all that horrible but the fact that someone took advantage of my trusting nature really, really sucks. They lied, and fucked me over in the process.
Someone give me a crowbar.

Long story, eh? I ain't got nowhere to go.
But yeah, I hate having niceness/generosity taken advantage of. Like that guy this weekend taking advantage of me letting him sleep on my couch when he was drunk in order to make a move on me.
Fuck those people, yo.

eh I'm doing some freelance and it's all really small things, graphics and the like. Anyway, I managed to get a good amount of people interested and so I've been super busy awaiting payments then sending out their graphics.
I usually double check the client name and make sure they paid before I send things out. Things got a bit hectic this evening, so when I was double checking payments it was getting to be a bit lengthy. So when I got to the last few I saw a name that I knew from another time I freelanced, so I trusted their word when they emailed me to let me know they paid.
One of those said they paid and I sent off the product. I then went to take care of other things, and I returned just to catalog all the clients info and the like. Turns out, motherfucker never paid. Just said he did. :(
I know a lot of this is my fault, but I've WORKED WITH HIM BEFORE so I felt like it'd be okay and I can trust him. Alas.
It wans't a HUGE job or anything it just, stinks.

Could it have been a mistake? Like maybe he forgot that he didn't pay but thought he did? If he's an old fart, that may be the case.
If not, break his legs.

I don't know. I e-mailed him about it but I've heard no response.
He has two days or else he sleeps with the fishes

I'd definitely give him the benefit of the doubt. Iff his words and actions don't sync up again, then I'd change the way I do business with him.

You better hope he doesn't die within the next two days.

Last week I got a letter telling me my rent hadn't been paid for the last few weeks. My initial reaction was wtf but then I realised that I'd set the automatic deposit thing to 6 months, and that had expired. I rang up the agent and cleared it up, but basically I wouldn't get too worked up just yet. Give it some time, and maybe he'll get back to you and apologise. It might also be that he did just rip you off and it pisses me off that there are people out there like that.

to forgive is divine

seriously though, this fucking sucks. I'm really sorry for you, you're good people. and I hate seeing good people get shit on. especailly when they need the dough as badly as you.
take comfort in the fact that the good people of the world will own all these half-wits someday. you'll get the last laugh, may not be today, but someday.

Sometimes it's a wonder why anyone bothers to trust anyone else.
In a business model, the optimum level of trust is 0. In human affairs, the level of trust is much greater. Why? Ask the bonobo. A couple of bonoboes, when faced with a task which requires team-work to master will instinctively reward their compatriot, even when they have the sole proprietary over the reward, with an equal share. Why? Because "fair play" is genetically hard-wired into them. It is the same with humans. It requires sociological conditioning to teach a human that you can get ahead from cheating your fellow men and society.
Viva la capitalism.

He has a point. I work for the Man, and I know that you cannot EVER let your guard down - or like my boss likes to say, you cannot make someone a priority when to them you are only an option.
Capitalism sucks, but if you play the game, you gotta keep your guard up. Don't need to be an ass, just need to be organized and demand respect by showing respect.
Especially as a freelancer. Never an option, I've seen too many of these people get screwed over. I go out of my way for them, because I remember how hard the work is and I know they deserve double the respect.
