I'll start by saying that I do not know this guy, but it hits kinda close to home as it happened over in Oakland about anhour from where I live. I heard about this through some pin-up/tattoo communities I lurk around and I wanted to share it with you guys, because I just cannot imagine how I'd deal if this had happened to me and my man. If you're feeling generous there is information on how you can make a donation to help his family with hospital bills and treatments. thanks, and feel free to post this up on other message boards you frequent.

RE: Devon Blood (written by his bride to be)

"The most important person in my existance, my dude, tattooer Devon Blood, is in the hospital right now after being shot early Wednesday morning, July 12, during an attempted robbery of my home. He's listed as stable in the ICU, he's unconscious, but his recovery looks good if he stays the course he's on right now. Either way, its going to be a long road to being his usual self. The bullet that is lodged in his brain is not going to be removed, as the doctors fear it would do more damage to operate to remove it than to leave it where it is.

For those that know Devon, you know what a gentle, good hearted person he is, as well as the passion he has for tattooing, and the love he has for his family and friends. He didn't deserve this to happen AT ALL, not that most people do, but it doesn't sit right knowing what he's going through.

One o his closest pals, Matt Howse, has sorted out an account for Devon, for those of us who want to contribute to helping him on his way to recovery.

It's very important to usthat everyone understands that 100% of every dime that goes into this account will go to Devon and Devon only. There aren't any middlemen, percentage takers or foundations that can get their hands on it. I've set this up on behalf of his family and friends, so any questions, please ask. It's even a free checking account to they won't even take fees for it.

So, you can send in money three ways; mail a check/money order/whatever to:

Devon Get Better
c/o Sacred Tattoo
707 Broadway
Oakland, CA 94607

Make sure checks are made out to "Devon Get Better" which is what I've set up the account under..

or you can deposit money into the account directly at any Washington Mutual branch, the account number is 3063634311.

I've also set up a Paypal account for those who use Paypal, the address you send money to is devonblood@reliabletattoos.com

The art benefits and shows will be starting this week, and will continue as long as there's drive from all of us. For anyone who wants to contribute art, tattoo time, or anything else that can be contributed towards his recovery, you're more than welcome to. Just contact Matt Howse at Matt@reliabletattoos.com for details.

With a constant stream of visitors since last week, Devon knows we're here for him and is able to show signs here and there of being aware people are around him who love him.

We've met with the neurosurgeon who's overseeing Devon, his prognosis is good for the type of injury he's sustained, but it will be days or weeks before we know how he'll fare with being his old self. All of our love to our friend.

Please pass this on."

he has collateral, a tattoo shop...put that up and pay for the surgery. If he doesnt have medical insurance thats his own damn fault.

and YES, it is sad and or tragic that this guy got shot...just like the other 10,000 people that got shot in the head around the globe within the same hour time span he did. Such is life.

ok you fucking asses..you're probably right this is all just a scam. look here's his girlfriend trying to get free mixed tapes from people:

Great way to help Devon for under a buck Devon is allowed to listen to music in his room and he has a little tape deck. It would be greatly appreciated if people would make a mixtape for him or copy tapes they already have so he doesn't have to listen to the same three tapes over and over again.

and I suppose she's just making up these play by plays to take your money:
Devon Blood 7-24 Yesterday, Devon opened his eyes for nearly six hours and was able to follow movement. He responded to several different commands (thumbs up, two fingers, hand squeezes, toe wiggling etc.) when the nurses did their neurological checks throughout the day. He is able to smile and looks like he really doesn't want his breathing tube in anymore. He was very much present. His ability to use facial expressions and smile and laugh is somewhat impaired currently because of his breathing and feeding tubes but he is making a valient effort. The ICU staff are ecstatic about his improvements.Today Devon seems pretty tired out and is in a more restful state but the doctors reduced the function of his respirator so he is breathing almost entirely unassisted. He is taking aproximately fifteen breaths a minute (normal) with just a small boost from the machine when it can tell he is inhaling. In the next few days the doctors will test out taking the tube out all together

um ya...ya know I don't give a shit if anyone wants to make a donation or not, but you could give me a little more fucking credit for researchi8ng something like this before I post it. I'm not just going to randomly post spam and after 2 fucking years here you should know this. I passed this on because I though a few people here might be genuinely compassionate about the situation. boy was I wrong. whatever. I'm done.

ya know you don't have to fucking know someone to have empathy for thier situation or to want to help in some small way. Not everyone has to judge someone as "worthy" before they decide to help. whatever. people broke into his house and shot him and that could happen to any of you. so if you can't empathize with that then you're cold. merely said if you're feeling compassionate and generous this person sounds like they need help.occasionally people do like to do random acts of kindness...but apparently people here do not.

anyway I think most of you are insenative assholes and if I ever do have a problem I certainly won't look for anyone here to help.

Hey don't worry, don't you know it's much much cooler to be a dickhead and act like you don't give a shit about anyone? Obviously, if you don't even know the guy, it gives you an automatic pass to make shitty and rude jokes, because, "so many other people are suffering bla bla bla". Then give them some money and shut the fuck up. I mean, jesus, I know there's just so many jokes waiting to be made (a tatoo artist LOLZ), how can you expect anyone to resist? Oh, and there's money involved - it must be a scam. I mean fuck anyone who doesn't have health insurance, and especially their loved ones for even thinking twice about trying to ask for help.

Either way, do a search. Do you see anyone having any sort of fundraisers for him? You sure dont. You would think his friends and family would be more proactive in organizing something in this regard rather than simply sending out random emails about some dude. I dont know anything about him so what singles him out as an individual that I SHOULD feel a further level of compassion for compared to everyone else on the planet that I DONT know that also deals with things of this nature?

Nothing singles him out, at all. You're right, crazy shitty things happen to all types of people, all the time. But there's a difference between not caring about it, and making a point to tell someone else that they shouldn't give a shit because they don't know them personally, and making jokes like "maybe they gave a bad tatoo" etc.

It's to be expected here, so I knew exactly what I'd find when I opened up this thread. Whatever.

What I AM stating is either way, I do not know this man. I have never met this man. No one knows him, so to approach the situation from the aspect that his situation deserves attention somehow by donating money is ludicrous. Its a post on a message board...odds are me and everyone else would have reacted differently had it been presented to us in conversation. Its a venue of sarcasm and assholishness...aint a damn thing changed.

Empathy is one's ability to recognize and understand the emotion of another. As the states of mind, beliefs, and desires of others are intertwined with their emotions, one with empathy for another may often be able to more effectively divine another's modes of thought and mood. Empathy is often characterized as the ability to "put oneself into another's shoes", or experiencing the outlook or emotions of another being within oneself, a sort of emotional resonance.

what level of sensitivity are we supposed to apply? Are people really that sensitive to the lives of those we dont know and will never know that every time something unfortunate happens to someone else it should be expected to show empathy and compassion thru financial compensation? Isnt this man employed? Doesnt he own his own shop? Shouldn't the financial aspects be secondary? If its life or death, I dont think they would just brush aside the procedure unless he has cash upfront.

You don't even have to care much less be sensitive but I just don't see any reason to insensitive and heartless. Why is there no middle ground here?

I don't know this guy, either. I'm not sending him any money. He's never fucking bailed me out of jail. But just because I don't know him and he's never done anything to help me doesn't mean it's OK for me to start cracking jokes because the man has a bullet in his brain.
