I thought my internet was running way too slowly today so I clicked on ctr + alt + delete and chose processes (or whatever it's called in English computers) and clicked away explorer (I use Firefox) and then even taskmngr. Of course it asked if I really wanted to do that, but looks like I shouldn't've done that! The bar at the bottom has dissappeared, my desk is empty and to open new pages I have to click on c+a+d again and dblclick on which I want to open. I can't right click on the desk at all, can't open any files. I've restarted the computer and it didn't help.
Help anyone!!!?!? What do I have to do to get that taskmanager back? And what is it for anyway?

I believe Windows uses Explorer to run your desktop or something along those lines. Not just for web browsing. Thats why when you open a drive or folder, it looks like you are using explorer. No? Hmm. To reinstall it, I'm not sure.

Explorer should come back when you reboot your PC. And yes, "explorer.exe" is an intrinsic part of the windows environment. Windows Explorer is used to browse files on your hard-drive and navigate the start-menu.

IExplore.exe (Internet Explorer) is the web browser, and a completely different program.

If explorer.exe doesn;t automatically restart, you can use "ctrl-alt-del" to bring up task manager, and use task manager to manually run explorer.exe.

However, I'd advise you download and run the free version of AVG (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1) first, as the increased and inexplicable use of system resources sounds like a trojan, as does explorer.exe not restoring.

go to start/run

type "msconfig". hit enter

make sure the normal start up option is selected then hit OK.

i've accidentally closed windows explorer in task manager before and it just came back like 5 seconds later. i have never seen what has happen to you happen before.

I close and restart explorer.exe when Im too lazy to reboot after an install. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

When I turned on the comp 24 hours later everything was fine (I'd already forgotten about it until I started reading old threads on the second page....)
