when I decide to leave my messengers on public. People end up messaging me and within the first message, talk about calling me or wanting to meet in person. I of course, say no and get called a selfish bitch. Or, even better, they forget how they found my screen name and want to see my myspace or picture and I always say "what's it matter for good conversation, especially since you JUST messaged me, not sure I'm comfortable with that" then they call me an ugly bitch and how I'll be sorry because they are a great guy and/or have a huge penis.

Sometimes it's entertaining. But I have to be in the mood for it.

well it could be worst (off another board I frequent)

at first the flattery was nice, but sometimes guys just went a bit overboard which was a little disturbing but i got used to ignoring it. when i had my msn details up someone sent me an email with a picture of their dick asking me if i wanted some of it! the person was from ths board but wouldn't tell me who they were so i blocked and deleted him. i had my pictures taken down and got rid of my msn addy from my profile and it's now basically stopped

beastieangel01

damn, yeah.

I just find it hilarious, and yet, disturbing/sad all at once. It'd be one thing if they are joking but I get the feeling that isn't the case 100% of the time.

that too (!)

I forgot, last night, I was leaving the gym some guy working at a booth tried to hit on me (gym is located in a mall). I was polite and said thanks to the compliments, but kept walking. He actually got OUT of his booth to stop me by grabbing my arm. I looked at him said "I have a boyfriend" in a really annoyed manner. He then let go and called me a bitch.

Good times!

that's great, when the pick up line doesn't work, physically grabbing the girl always works. what a concept.

once again: people are either getting more brave or stupid as time goes on.

And the fact you said thanks and didnt give him a complete cold shoulder doesnt warrent him calling you a bitch or rude.

seriously man. call the gym. tell them what happened. he shouldn't even be hitting on you, much less touching you and calling you a bitch.

beastieangel01
07-27-2006, 12:23 PM
nah, he worked at a booth within the same mall that the gym is located in.

Although, I should probably let the verizon people know that they hired a jerk of a salesman. I'm sure hitting on women and calling them a bitch if they don't respond the way you want them to is in the handbook somewhere, though. (!)

I've taken to just yelling, "NO!" when people say inappropriate things to me. they usually back off. maybe they're reminded of their mothers.

or I just shake my head without saying anything and avoid eye contact. well, sometimes I say "no thanks" if they seem scary and likely to take offense to the no talking..."why you ignoring me bitch?!"

I blame rap music and those Die Hard movies!

cosmo105
07-27-2006, 12:28 PM
the trick is to just not respond at all. i remember years ago some van full of guys pulled up next to me as i was walking, and shouted and hollered and whistled. and one of them asked how much, baby? and, disgusted, i flipped him off. without skipping a beat, he said, "just one dollar?" and laughed at his own joke and they drove off. it sort of surprised me that he had been flipped off enough times to have that response so quick at hand. but only sort of.

oh, and sometime last year when some guys working on a roof across from my store whistled and clicked as i got out of my car (wearing my full uniform, which isnt' very flattering), and i rolled my eyes and walked inside. what really got me was when i told the 80-something owner about it, she said, "oh my, you should be flattered!" what?!

the trick is to just not respond at all.

I thought about that but he was literally 3 feet away from me in the booth, I figured I should at least say thanks as I continued to walk to the car. Most of the time I pretend not to hear/see/notice people if they are far enough away.

And usually I am stuck or daydreaming in my own little world that I never notice anyway.

man this isn't even that bad either. A few weeks ago my girlfriends and I went out. A guy that seemed very nice talked to a friend of mine so she was polite and explained she'd only like to dance. The night was over and we were headed home, and when she had to explain to him again that it was only dancing and she was going home now he got really upset. To the point that it escalated to him YELLING in her face, calling her an ugly lesbian bitch. She got angry and shoved him out of her face, and he came back in her face saying that he'd rip her head off.

Then my best friend (her sister) gave him a good knee to the balls and kicked dirt in his face.

Good times.

That is a good example of why sometimes I'm scared to say anything at all (just trying to get away). Some of them get ANGRY and threaten. It's fucked up.

Cosmo's recommendation is simple and sound advice...just don't reply to them. All it does is encourage them to keep plugging away.

I set up Skype on my ex-girlfriends' PC back when she was in school so that we could keep in touch without being charged long-distance. It worked great for awhile...

...until a few sketchy europeans starting 'chatting her up'. Meaning 'you-sound-cute-send-me-pictures-of-your-boobs' chatting her up. I eventually saw this for myself when I visited her on campus a few weeks later. Creepy, creepy shit.

hahaha.

I actually have gotten physical. Liquid strength, ahem. But the guys deserved it. It makes me mad when guys are mean to my friends and/or don't get the hint or don't realize what no means. I've pushed men with all my strength and they fell on their asses in the middle of a dance floor. There's always a security guard around though so the guys never bother trying to get me back. Thank goodness.

I'm not saying guys are justified in doing things like that, or that any girl deserves it, but some girls have it coming because they're too naive or wimpy.

holla holla, holla holla hollahollaholla

I think this is guys version of taking back the night.

Okay so, an innocent girl gets all dolled up looking like a cutie pie and goes to the clubs and politely explains that she only wants to dance with the nice young gentleman? What the hell world is this? This doesn't happen. Don't go to clubs in glitter haltertops if you don't want rocawear calhoun sweating on you, and if you do want Cologne Mcgee to look at you ass, deal with the consequences.

I'm just ranting, maybe this has nothing to do with you, Beastieangel. I know you're into gaming and cartoons so you're not like that.

beastieangel01
07-27-2006, 01:14 PM
It's all good I understand what you are saying. Especially at bars if you dress a certain way, it's how it is. I hate hearing girls whining about guys being on her when she's wearing a 2 inch skirt and a bikini top at a bar.

It's odd though because it's when we are dressed down, no or very little make up and just trying to relax that these things happen  And fuck with the gym, I was at the gym. I was nasty afterward. But that didn't matter.

I agree with you on this point, but this still doesn't mean that a guy has a right to do this. It's more the guys fault then the girl in this case. If you step to a girl you should come with the proper. Come with some etiquette. And we should all know by now that just because someone is dress a certain way doesnt mean that they are that. As such with you "rocawear calhoun" statement.

It's all about etiquette, and the guys that seem to be around where you are don't have any. And the fact is the people they surrond themselves (family, friends etc.) more then likely allow this.

But I do agree that if your going dress a certain way you should expect to get yelled at a certain way. It's how it is, all you can do is just continue to fight the system

Guys don't ask girls to dance. Girls don't even wait, they just go out onto the floor and start dancing together and then a guy comes up behind her and Bumps into her with his crotch. And she doesn't really turn around she just backs up and looks to her friends' facial expressions for confirmation of his hotness. Isn't this how it works? I mean it's been a long time since those 6th grade dances but this is how I remember it.

Not too long ago I naively got swept up in the enthusiasm of girls going out on girls night out "drink! do hair! wear it with jeans!" and it was horrible.

I love getting dressed up, I love music and dancing. But that's it. What happened was we all got dressed up to go to a bar and I remember standing there with my drink with all these dudes' eyes on me and my friend...me wondering what the hell I was doing there. I was obviously there broadcasting that I wanted attention. But I was thinking "I don't want their attention, I don't want to dance with any of them. Why am I here?"
It was a bunch of girls with boyfriends or semi-boyfriends, wanting to feel single again for a night. So I guess I would have been a bitch to any of them if I'd stayed long enough.

Clubs don't play enough Kenny Loggins for my liking.

let's start our own club and play some Kenny and Hall & Oates and all will be well with the world.

That's probably the greatest idea ever. Aside from penis enlargers.

Firstly, I agree with Nuzz, secondly I direct you all to this thread:
http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=67386

If you want to know why on earth guys would behave in such a way, why not ask the women who need to be approached like that in order for the guys to get a response. It is silly to assume guys are behaving in such a manner for no reason.

So yes, I do think it is guys "taking back the night" in a way (as I kinda explained in the above thread). And I think it is also because it is cocky loud-mouthed pricks trying it on with every single chick in a nightclub who get action. As Nuzz points out (and hopefully was being serious) - there are plenty of nice guys all over the place, but they will not be showcased to their best in a dimly-lit booze-fuelled meat market, filled with simianesque chest-thumpers getting all the attention.

As for extending this to an Internet paradigm, I think the same is probably true. If you have your contact details posted in angsty loser-holes, you're going to get sleazes messaging you. It's not brain surgery. You'd not go into a biker-bar and then complain that you aren't being treated as an intellectual.

If you don't want to be treated as a solely sexual entity solely existing for various net-people's sexual gratification, then *don't present yourself as an attention-whore cock-slut*. If you want to talk to interesting people and make new friends with sensible people - why not try messaging new people, instead of waiting for drunken testosterone laden guys to message you, when all they probably know about you is that you are a girly-girl that they'd prolly like to tap?

Again, Nuzz is right, it is naive to expect anything else, given the circumstances. And I seriously doubt that you'd be on-the-ball enough to capitalise and respond well to someone who didn't fit into this stereotype anyway, so that probably colours your expectations too.

when I decide to leave my messengers on public.

This is pretty much why I stopped chatting, or stay hidden on the rare occasions I do chat.

You should post their screen names in your blog, perhaps write up an 'e-creeps of the week ' report to warn all the fair maidens in cyberspace about the sharks. Or post your conversations on line. That would be entertaining to you readers and give those assholes a slap on the dick. ;)

Wow Ace. You just took that to a whole new level. If you read anything else you would know that I didn't post my name in sleazy places, nor did they even know what I looked like or that I was female.

I was just sharing how amusing it can be if you're in the mood to fuck with the idiots. And we ended up talking about other things, sure.

But alrighty.

we were out last night and a weird thing happened to us. it was like a drunk girl was pimping me out to my own husband. we were sitting outside of the bar at a table and this drunk foursome are walking by, and this chubby girl looks at bobby and says "she's hot, you should like her." bobby said "i can go one better. i married her." they kept walking, and i don't know what her boyfriend said to her but she was all "what? she's hot." it was just odd.

That's interesting, Ace. It makes me wonder, though, what you expect from this place.

Howso? I'm a guy, we don't get hit on by e-perverts so much. Well, I have, but everyone on the board knows I'm a guy, so wouldn't make that mistake.

If you read anything else you would know that I didn't post my name in sleazy places, nor did they even know what I looked like or that I was female.

Firstly, they have to get your username from somewhere, and judging by your post, I am thinking they weren't getting it from a messageboard dedicated to the discussion of Petrach. I am not saying you are loafing around irc.sexnet.org, nor was I attempting to imply that. What I *was* suggesting is that if you hang around "social" boards, rather than boards with a particular topic, purpose and direction, you are obviously going to have attention from people who want to "socialise" (The main method of male-female socialisation being the fucky, RE: Ladder Theory).

IE: You hang around on the AOL chatrooms, you expect to get ASLd by horny 14 year olds wanting to cyber.

Secondly, you may not be aware of this, but you come across (at least here) as being a bit of an attention whore. I didn't know anything about you until someone brought you up in an attention whoring topic, and pointed to the dozens of pictures you have published on sure-shots, as well as one photo in specific that you apparently didn't.

Which leads to thirdly: It sounds like, presumably from the above, they deduced you were female, possibly from your username, or possibly you gave away more on wherever you published your username than you'd like to think. Whether in some MSN profile you forgot about, or some forum you forgot you were subscribed to, I dunno. If not, you were hanging around a place where such behaviour is common, which is not unlikely, as birds of a feather flock together, it is not a coincidence that AOL chatrooms are full of idiotic ASLers.

Ok?

I'm not talking about perverts. I'm talking about what you can expect from certain places, and about the naivetee (sp?) of being shocked to receive a sting when you play with bee hives. With this place, it's not perverts, it's something else. And don't you (and I) get upset when we don't get what we want from this place, and instead get something else? Isn't it just as (what's a word that would mean not being worthy of sympathy?) to get upset about perverts when you put yourself out there, as it would be to get upset about not getting the discussions you want when you put yourself into a giggle circle?
