i can live very well for 2 years on that amount.
and besides a few debts, i don't have many expenses.
but i can surely come up with some.
and i only have 2 yrs of schooling left, so it's no big deal.
BA01, i'm telling you, move to Canada. our brand of Socialism kicks ass.

Well with Student Loans they also feed on people with:
Good credit and/or standing.....and if your poor and don't have too much debt your more then likely to get an even higher amount. Thats how it worked with my pops...he had no credit debt but came from a famil that was far from middle class....I still can remeber living in on-campus apartments when he first got to UCD back in the day...that was mainly due to loans and scholarships. I am anti-loans/credit mainly for what I have seen it do to my family, but also this might work out for you given that you say you dont have too much debt and might not have as many children (5) or a higher paying job.

I like the college experience... even if it is a bit pricey. But I do wonder how it could be to take the route of some of my friends who didn't or won't enroll in higher ed and just read a lot of books.

You'd be just as smart as some college students that for certain, but would lack the piece of paper that seems to be one of the main hurdles to get a job. Even if you can communicate better and know what you are speaking about that pricy piece of 8x11 (or smaller) is what it's about. At one point and time it wasn't but thanks to the economics and society it has become that and even then it's not enough sadly. Society sucks a good amount of time.

You did just fine. The library is full of voracious readers every afternoon. They usually leave and push their shopping cart full of tin cans and dirty blankets down the street.

that's why i am getting the loan.
i am poor
i can barely afford to get by.
as soon as i can say i have a BA, i can get a fulltime job and everyone will stfu about finishing school.
i doubt i'll even use my Religious Studies BA, but it's a good fall back plan.
edit&ps: shit dude, 100k? that's steep. good luck.(y)

one of my buddies has close to 200k in student loans. I asked him once what his running tally on school costs are (hes a law student) and his wife plugged her ears.
On the flip side, he will definetly earn it back in a hurry...hes a very smart dude.

i hope i'm smart too because law school's going to dig a very large hole for me. i'm more or less going to have to become a high priced lawyer to pay them back.
it's motivation, damn it!

Well she could have gotten a free ride too....you never know.
yeah i don't really know how you could pay for law school on your own without any student loans. unless you get a huge scholarship (which i got, but for shitty law schools, so i went with the expensive one) or something. or if you work your ass off and live inside a beach for 20 years to save up.
I'm young why?
I dont' know, I guess I just always thought of you around 26ish.
Beth received a scholarship sponsored by Stella Artois.

I don't list my age on here, but I guess thats futile given I have it on myspace.
I am 20 bout to be 21 on Nov. 30th...but I do look older (due to the hair and what not) and the voice being deep.
Thanks the whole reason I started growing my hair (both on my head and face) is to look older....I am very young looking when it's all cut off (although its been 5 years now since then)

My student loans totaled $28,000. I paid that off in about 8 years by making extra payments every month. It was hard to pay that back because my first job was being a clerk for a court and that didn't pay shit (but it was the best experience). I had to budget after law school -- almost no travel, concerts, eating out. I was miserable.
I kept the student loan debt down by working full time while going to school at night and not living on loan money. I had almost no social life outside of school and work. I also lived with my parents to keep debt down during the last years of law school. That was okay because I was never home while they were awake except from 7-10 p.m. on Sundays.
I have lawyer friends who are paying back their loans over a 30 year period. They don't make a lot of money. Most lawyers don't make much money. Most law school graduates don't work as lawyers. Most people who do work as lawyers quit within 5-7 years.
I love my job. And I'm home sick today. I never use the internet at work. ;)

gmile, did your dad help support you?
I took about $15K in student loans -- 1980's dollars, though. I paid it off in about 72 monthly installments. Back in my day, interest was raised to 3% on student loans, which was a big deal.
I didn't go to grad school because I wasn't going to get any grants -- I had some through undergrad -- and didn't want to quadruple my debt when I could be clocking that $20K per year. If I had known I could come on here to argue, I wouldn't even have given it a 2nd thought.
