For some reason I replied to this thread in "I just bought AIFST" or whatever it's called.

Adrock taking off his hat during Intergalactic and screaming his lyrics acapella.

The cat's dueling on the jumbo screen behind the performance.

Mike D "dancing" with that chick.

When one of the Beasties jumps on stage, and keeps going up.

The lady air-guitaring during Sabotage.

I can't really narrow it down more than that :D

ill definately second the performance of Hello Brooklyn (always loved that one)

and the jumping and flying up, that was so random and hilarious the first time i saw it.

i like the little part when MCA's just sitting on the edge of the stage while the crowd is doing the singing (remember?)

Adrock with mikes glasses

and "Goddamn you Mike!" during brass monkey

man is that concert great...

the crowd during paul revere

I love the opening sequence from the Scarface goof, to the fisheye shot of the city. (Because the fisheye is so extreme, it makes NYC look like half the world. Try extrapolating that curve in your mind and you'll see.) I love the mixing of voice clips between shout outs, Flava, and the instructions. I love how the camera speeds up over the Empire State Building (that 30 secs gives me chills). The pre-game pump is obviously priceless. The ring announcer intro by MMM to the askew angle out to the first grid with the sub-bass voice is probably my favorite sequence of the whole thing.

I like the surprise of "Hello Brooklyn". How MMM fakes left with OLTNYC, Adrock takes the three point screaming "Hello Brookly" and something about how MCA smiles and walks backward. That whole sequence does it for me even more than the rest of the song.

I also love the dancing (especially Adrock holding his hat and his strut later on), angles and negative filter (that turns almost everything white) on "So Whatcha Want". (Whoa, I think that's the song. I love the visuals so much, I can't remember. It's like visual Wayne, it makes me forget.)

I love the extreme filters on "Gratitude" (gotta play this at my funeral) except for the dark green embossed one. I wish they'd left that one out.

In general I love how each song has its own feel. Triple Trouble is almost entirely audience, hyper-shakey, blow-out colors, by traditional standards, ugly. I did expect more visual puns, although I beginning to see more the more I watch it.

After so many viewings, I'm also loving how there are different phases. Like the B/W phase that starts with Ricky's Theme and continues through to RRNN, like metachapters. I agree with Yauch that the instructions for Time to Get Ill could have been movie-magiced shorter.

Maybe, although there's a funny bit in the instructions where Yauch kinda looks at the camera shaking his head at Adrocks instructions, it's made me laugh a few times now.

And agreed on the phasings, I like the Body Movin' graffitti style thing too. All of the 'segments' break it all up really well.

Yeah, the part where Adrock calls his section "the beautiful people" and Yauch shakes his head? Good one.

I didn't realize how much work went into Body Movin'. Yauch said the had to export that frame-by-frame to Photoshop, render them and them peice it all back together in Finalcut. That's a lot of work. And you're right, it does look good.

MMM intro, he just rocked the whole place!--best dj ever.

Hey Beasties, Tupelo, MS is a very nice venue. BancorpSouth Center, you should consider coming here. Plus as an extra added fun side trip you could visit Elvis Presley's birth place! That's right! I'm surprised they had to stress over Hello Brooklyn. I saw them a couple weeks earlier in Vancouver and they pretty much nailed it. During the "shrimpy limp dick part" Mike started going "Oh oh!" and then Adrock and MCA stopped and looked at him and the song started falling apart, but up until that point it was perfect.

*Gasp* My favorite AIFST moment? Is there such thing?! The whole damn thing! Okokokok, I've been watchin this movie everyday and it has so much energy it gets me all hyped up. I love how each song is edited differently and switches from one camera to another, they all have different vibes, it's all about the vibes maaaan (pothead voice). You can tell Nathanial Hornblower worked hard on it. ;) But just to name a few:

Yeah I know it's been said more then once, but...HELLO BROOKLYN!!! So many good things happenin in this one, Adrock yellin into the mic like that always gives me goosebumps. And Yauch's daughter (I think) in the audience doin some crazy zombie move haha! Also when Yauch said "I got the jammy but I don't got the permit" a camera operator did the gun thing with his hand you know. With the bass and the rhymes, that song always kicks ass live! (y)

Time To Get ILL! Y'all know...

Adrock's funky moves during So Whatcha Want, when Yauch says the verse "But little do you know about somethin I talk..." acapella, he just flows so well on that song. They all do, it's a favorite.

I love the instrumental section, nice slow rhythms to give the audience a chance to cool down. Yauch looks chill as fuck playin the bass.

Something's Got To Give, get weeded! I really love how everything seems to be in slow motion, and the close up of the bass.

The elevator scene is an obvious one, it's like everything's so hectic bein infront of all those people, to being cooped up in a little elevator listening to that quiet elevator music. Then right back to the crowd again with Intergalactic, the most hectic part of the whole damn show! I agree with whoever said Adrock screamin his lyrics acapella.

When the fuzz bass of Gratitude came on, I love that song

SABOTAGE! Dedicated to that dumbass president of ours. Of course the lady playin air guitar, and the dude playin air bass. Cracked me up!

The end, with that song playin almost makes me wanna cry. And who the fuck is that dude sayin "beastie boys suck, you all suck, fuck you..." was he bein sarcastic or what? That made me laugh though, because it was so random and untrue.

At the end backstage, they're gettin major props from Doug E Fresh so that's cool. I liked the interview with Ben Stiller. Yes I'm a girl, so you know I liked watchin D and Horovitz undressing. :o

I'm not sure if anyone noticed but I just love how the last word on the movie is "Brooklyn". It's just such a coincidence!

Damn, I couldn't pick just one. But I love EVERYthing on the whole dvd. I'm tired, donno what else to say (it's 2 am). Just ramblin on and on...haha.

seriously, i think i'm falling in love with the grid. it's like beastie boys enter the matrix, y'all! the lights, the cameras, & all the (crazy) action, gotta love it. i HEART the grid. there, i said it.

and there's that little part when one of the camera people put their hand in front and pretended to squash 'em haha. that part just suddenly stood out in my mind. so small, yet so significant in a way i guess. well, not really, but it's a funny part.

EXTREME CLOSE-UP!!!! yauch's bass :D

just let me go on and on. and on and on.

I just thunka sumthin'. Adrock's got epilepsy, he's on meds for it, does flash photography still affect him? How does watching AIFST (especially milisecond sequences like in Ch-Check It Out) affect him?

I remember seeing Timothy Leary give a talk right before he died. He started his show with the kind of early 3D animation that showed up on TV screens at the local stereo shop to show off DVDs for the first time. Anyway, Leary was talking about using light through projected images to affect the brain in ways we hadn't before. I remember a bunch of friends talking to him after the show and him saying somewhere along the line that there's just so much you can get out of substances, that there were other ways to see parts of ourselves we hadn't seen before.

Has anyone seen the Brian Eno DVD that's just an art installation; it doesn't have narrative? I can't remember what it's called.

I think I remember Yauch saying somewhere that playing (I'd assume 3D) videogames prepares you for AIFST. Now that is totally paraphrasings, but I thought it was something like that. If he didn't say that I can say I've seen it. Some people who didn't grow up on Wolfenstein and saw Doom for the first time wanted to wretch. MTV gen likes things faster. That kind of thing.

I know this seems like random thoughts, but I wonder if AIFST is going to have any psychological effects (not like solarizing) on people. Not saying it was part of Yauch's master plan, just that it might have unintended consequences -- good, ill, whatever. I didn't see the epilepsy warning at the beginning of AIFST that printed in every videogame manual.

BTW, I noticed that the Best Buy, Double Disk version I have, has a Lionsgate logo (what do you call those) play before THINKfilm's and Oscilloscope's. There might be more stuff, but I haven't noticed because I haven't been playing from the beginning of the disks. I know it's small, but it's fun. It's like playing that game "What's Different" where you try to pick out what's different between two pictures. Yeah, for like adults and shit.

I enjoyed one of the commentaries where, while they were watching themselves perform from within the audience, they said that they should do a whole tour in that fashion (performing in/among the crowd). One of them suggested doing lap dances and possibly being able to collect some tips.

Another bit in the commentary: Yauch asks them to tell the good people something about the film and Horovitz (I think) says something like, "Oh. Okay. Here, we're rapping." Something like that.

I also liked one of the detours where Horovitz and Mike D. were off to the side doing a few steps of this kind of charleston-era dance. I haven't rewatched that but that was the impression that I had when I watched it that one time. It might have been the first detour. I have a feeling that I've missed some of them.

I haven't rewatched that but that was the impression that I had when I watched it that one time. It might have been the first detour. I have a feeling that I've missed some of them.

the little dance Mike an Adrock do is during Root Down.

The Hello Brooklyn practice is still up there with one of my fav moments. Its just cool them chatting with each other.

Although when thet are practicing it Adrock is like whispering the words. Can hardly here the King. (n)
