Apparantly this little fucker took a pretty good chomping but didn't give up. He saved the girl from the pit until the pit's owner could get over there and break it up. Just saw it on the news.

This is funny cuz I have a beagle. I can testify, I took mine to the dog park once and he proceeded to grab a great dane by the face and take it down. :o Needless to say our trip to the dog park was brief. He can be such a scrapper with other dogs. People he's so cool with (esp if they have food), but other dogs, he's just an ass. I can't figure it out. Sure wish I could afford the 'Dog Whisperer'.

Oh and we live near a police station sooooooooo you guessed it, when he's in the back yard, we often catch him singing along with the sirens. It's so adorable. Omg, I can't wait to get home and give him a hug.

I hope the beagle is okay! What a fighter!

My beagle Lucy died two years ago. RIP I can't imagine her taking on a pit bull, but when I attacked her with her giant stuffed rabbit, she used to grab it by the throat and shake it in an insane manner. She killed a few live bunnies too. :( She couldn't help herself -- it was in her genetic material.

I love the beagle bark. Rowt, rowt, rowt. Great dogs.

That bark almost got us sued by a farmer once because my beagle Wimpy used to always run off and taunt the farmer's chickens by standing outside of their pen and bark at them.

One day, the farmer came to our house and showed us a pic of 3 dead chickens without a scratch. He said my dog barked and scared the hell out of them causing them to have a heart attack.

I miss ole Wimpy. He was a great dog though and very protective over me when I was little.

I heard they're little diggers. I had been looking into getting one possibly, and they told me I had to get fences that were grounded pretty deeply, because those little bastids could dig pretty far down and escape the yard.

Ours never did, but the one my best friend had used to dig out of their yard on a regular basis. I loved our beagles but I would never recommend getting one. They're nearly impossible to train. They're super sweet but super stubborn. Lucy failed dog obedience two times because she refused to even "sit." The teacher said beagles are the worst. They also love to overeat and they're always nagging you for food. You have to be very disciplined to have a beagle, in my opinion.

I can't have a dog now because I'm not home enough and I love them too much to be a shitty owner. If I could have a dog, I'd get a tibetan terrier (http://www.ttca-online.org/) because I have some friends who have them and they're small but calm. They're also kind of stupid and unless you're going to be a super vigilent owner a stupid dog is better.

Captain Archer has a beagle, so they're good enough for me. Although not in my house, as I don't like dog urine on my carpets. Or poop.

Yes
Yes
Yes
Yes
and
Yes

I had a trainer at the dog park tell me she has yet to pass a beagle in obedience training. They are slaves to their noses. And our little Steve would eat himself to DEATH if you let him. Stubborn doesn't even begin to describe... ugh.

For the record, we didn't seek out a pure bred dog and purchase him. (I'm personally against such things when there are so many beautiful dogs out there that desparately need homes) Our dog had been through 2 owners already and both times the people couldn't handle him. He was basically handed over to us. These dogs take immense amounts of discipline and patience.

They're really dopey, though. All Westies in the world share one brain, and not all of them ever get a chance to use it.

But they are very sweet dogs.
