I'm working on getting acquainted with this whole movement of music. I really wasn't aware that it was this whole big thing...I just kind of liked some of the music and got into it from there. Any advice you have for good bands associated with it or whatevs - (y)

"The music scene that celebrates itself."

Shoegazers/Shoegazers influenced I'm into:
The Jesus and Mary Chain
Brian Jonestown Massacre
Boo Radleys
Dandy Warhols (early)
BRMC (early)

To do:
My Bloody Valentine
Ride
Televise
Autolux

edit: I just got My Bloody Valentine - but I hadn't popped it in yet. Forgot to mention that.

Oh, man. If you don't have My Bloody Valentine's album, Loveless, you're pretty much missing the cornerstone shoegazer album.

For some reason Cranes and Cocteau Twins often get shoved in this label. Bleh.

YES!! And so does Lush!

the dandy warhols aren't shoegazers...regardless, go with: my bloody valentine (loveless), ride (nowhere, going blank again), lush (gala is really good), cocteau twins, slowdive and curve. even blur's first album has a heavy shoegazer influence.

i was going to mention verve, spacemen 3 and spiritualized, but they're rather amazing psychedelic acts. still, i highly recommend verve's older stuff: the verve ep, a storm in heaven and no come down.

Medicines first full length, Shot Fourth Self Living, is an extremely underrated shoegazer classic.

PS. Dandy Warhols? BRMC? What? No.

Note that I said "shoegazer influenced" also in the list there.

I think you could make an argument that some of their longer more spacey tracks qualify as shoegazer flavored.

I would put Cranes in the shoegazer category, but agree that Lush don't fit. Slowdive also get missed out but they were awesome. As were Mercury Rev. And I agree on the Medicine point.

Fuck. It's been years since I have listened to this stuff. Going to have to dig it out now!

Ride is great. I fell in and out of love with that band though. Saw them in concert, it was really good.

my ex was huge into shoegaze. totally ruined it for me. bleh.

y'all should check out Catherine Wheel, Starflyer 59 (i've seen them! they've been around forever and have put out so many fucking albums it's insane), and a sorta local band with a huge following in Europe called The Autumns.

Extra! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoegazing) Extra! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_shoegazing_musicians) Read all about it!

my favourites:
Hardy Nilsson (Swedish, at its best)
Swervedriver
Chapterhouse
Telescopes
Warlocks
Loop

and then there's a few (in my record collection) that I'm not quite sure if they can be counted into that category, but close (I hate labelling anyway): All About Eve, An Emotinal Fish, Bear Quartet (well, maybe just some or their stuff), Broded Daniel...
What about the original Postcard bands? Josef K, Orange Juice, Aztec Camera?
Can Cornershop be included in that category? Lloyd Cole & the Commotions? Woodentops? I remember buying the Boo Radleys LP with some free 7" included and I think I listened to that record twice.... I never (well, hardly ever) sell my records tho.

oh - and yeah - I read the wiki article and list, but I really prefer to get personal recommendations on music when I can. Also I get bored if I don't find the band personally interesting as well as musically interesting.

Galaxie 500 also sound a little Shoegazy.

They don't have the loud, distorted guitars, but the sound is there.

Did Teleoscopes do a song called 'You set my soul'?Yeah, it's on their third (if you count the live) album High'r 'n higher (CRELP 079 (http://img306.imageshack.us/img306/9442/telescopesyv6.jpg)).

To kill a slow girl walking was one of my biggest favourites...

Not really -- there's not that much, and you could pretty much stop after Loveless if you wanted to. Isn't Anything is really good, but This Is... isn't much. And unless there's something else, I think that's it.

But, for bonus points, Kevin has a track on the Lost in Translation soundtrack that's good.

I thought he did almost the whole soundtrack? Oh you mean just one of the tracks is good?....

Here (http://www.inkoma.com/pages/my_bloody_valentine.html)'s loads of old live recordings for your enjoyment.

Wow -- I just checked, and he did four songs, plus tossed in "Loveless." How funny. Watching the movie, I only noticed one new song.

Now I might have to get the soundtrack.

I got all their EPs, so I think it just looked like more music than it was.

hello

i've been really heavy into this type stuff the past couple weeks. the only "shoegazing" album i ever heard until recently was "loveless".

this has to be one of the most beautiful songs i've heard in my entire life. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geNVYlAVCkw)

the "you made me realise" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njqRt7PH-5I) EP by my bloody valentine is amazing... it's a shame it's out of print and is kinda pricey on ebay... anyone know anything about the japanese mbv boxset that has all their EPs and both LPs and where it can be purchased online (i'm too to search at the moment)?

check out the songs " To All The Dancers Of The World, A Round Form Of Fantasy" and "Chocolate Matter" from this album (http://www.discogs.com/release/315667)... if you like shoegazing then you won't be disappointed... they are wonderful songs

like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR9VzRd0l-s)... it's mostly electronic but i can hear echos of shoegaze... especially the whispering vocals that start at 2:00
