Good Rock and Roll Groups?

I've been listening to a lot of hip-hop lately and wanted to get some new rock music, problem is most of it sounds really bad to me, does anyone know any good groups or albums that aren't what you see on the average day on MTV or Fuse? They all sound very whiny to me. I've got tons of old rock artists on record so lets keep the suggestions as new as possible.
