Tom Cruise is a really shitty actor, and that woman looks like a neanderthal half the time. Boring (n) Though, the whole time, the commander dude with the cigar, I was all WHO IS THAT, and he was the principal from Back to the Future (y)
Will Young's new video was a good summation of the movie i feel.
Let's fly around and shoot bad guys and then compare ours cocks. Yay!

I saw it recently for the first time, and I couldn't help but think to myself "this is what all the excitement was about?"

yeah, last time was the first time I saw it. Seriously...my boyfriend loves it because he's nerdy about planes and shit, so that I can understand. But I was just confused/bored for most of it.

the singing scene in the bar and the sex scene IMO suck...didn't see what all the hype was about. BUT....it did make that one song famous.

I am in the minority here but I frickin love Top Gun. Its so brainless, I like to watch it on a lazy Sunday afternoon when its gray and raining and I'm hanging out by myself. That bad 80's music pounding in my ears. I can't explain it. I just love this movie.

oh god. if this movie comes on, i swear to god, i can flip to it and matt will know exactly what line is coming next and mimic it to a T. he loves his Maverick shirt. i think it's a sort of latent homoerotic thing.

One time me and my friends got together and made a drinking game with this movie. It was a while ago.
Every time there was a gay moment, something that was homosexually charged (Ie - "you can be my wingman anytime" or "volleyball scene") you had to chug a beer until the scene was over.
I think I blacked out that night.

I was just huddled into a room with 20 co-workers just to be told that our contract can end at any given moment, that it was fun while it lasted, and to get back out on the floor and push the company's wares like it was business as usual. A little disappointed in that.
But Top Gun being a piece of shit movie...now THAT gets me going :p
seriously though...other than Tom Cruise-dissing being en vogue now, the movie wasn't really THAT bad was it?

Well, since you asked...I was just huddled into a room with 20 co-workers just to be told that our contract can end at any given moment, that it was fun while it lasted, and to get back out on the floor and push the company's wares like it was business as usual. A little disappointed in that. I couldn't give 2 fucks what the hell the company thinks or does at this point.
But back on topic regarding Top Gun being a piece of shit movie...now THAT gets me going
Other than Tom Cruise-lambasting being en vogue now, the movie wasn't really THAT bad was it? star-studded cast, cutting-edge military training exercises and enough competitive tension to slice through with a butter knife!

I was going to make a thread talking about how stupid most of Tony Scott's movies are. He's the original Michael Bay. He's like a lame version of his brother. I like some of his movies, but it's always been style over substance with him.

Michael Bay is doing the Transformers movie.

Relax, if he managed to make Pearl Harbor work, I'm sure he can do the same with this.

I feel the need, the need for speed.
My first date ever movie. I will always love it. Excpet the volleyball scene. I shut my eyes.
Over the weekend, when i was rafting, I said "We'll hit the brakes, and they will fly right by"

its worth it for Kenny Loggins' classic "Playing With the boys" which is the gayest song ever but has the little disclaimer line "Girls play too!" as if Kenny realised he had just written the gayest song ever and had to salvage it.
its also the gayest movie ever.

The first five minutes are fabulous.
My dad worked on an aircraft carrier during the war. He knew a guy who invented something that helped the planes land. He used to show up at naval bases, flash his old credentials, and ask the young guys questions for hours.
Dad was always fascinated by movies that involved any kind of air battles, and he had videotapes of really bad movies and only watched the flying parts. He loved the beginning of Top Gun because of all of the taking off and land parts. I kept his copy of Top Gun for purely sentimental reasons, and in 14 years I've never once watched it. :p

I've never sat and watched it, but it was a demostration laserdisc our store had back in the day, and one of the guys ran it ad naseum. That movie is really, really lame. Like someone else said, my reaction was, like, "This is what all the fuss was about!?"
