god, it's a bad thing to get into. ebay competition.

i just bidded on a nikon d70 (retail price is £612) digital SLR when the whole kit (which includes another 70-300mm lens, tripod, flash card & hardcase which sorta makes it a big fucking bargain) was at the £260 mark.

some fucker had put a maximum bid in, obviously, so i kept on being outbid and the sheer annoyance of letting someone who isn't even there beat me made me balloon my price all the way up to £333 (i thought - hey! - it's my lucky number so i'll put that as my max bid) and now i'm the current high bidder. i do not have this sort of money to spend on cameras, man - i didn't really think about popping an extra £70 on top. i know i'll probably be outbid again, but still. it was just so addictive!

have you ever had those moments where you and someone else are obviously watching the item till the very last minute, your finger over the mouse button waiting to put that deciding last bid on? i have. i think it was over a computer game. which i later sold.

but yeah. share your ebay WARS! and your ebay seller/buyer stories of horror. i'm sure we all have them.

yeah, I was in a bidding war over Adrocks' old band The Young and The Useless' 7" single earlier this year and lost out when someone came in with $100 in the last ten seconds and a few times I've lost on the Beastie Action figures cos the price went way over my limit.

It's like being at a real life auction really except you don't nod your head or make hand gestures(y)

I totally get this addiction. Nowdays, I decide what my high bid is, place it, and let it go. My high bid now is my high bid at the auction's end, and that's that.

I also like stores. When I buy something, I don't want to wait for it. I want it NOW!

Our old receptionist would buy herself things on different websites all the time, flowers, chocolates, music...whatev and she would have them pick the day they would send it to her, she said she did this so she always felt like she was getting presents and she often forgot about what she ordered. I feel bad laughing but I couldn't help it. And then for a moment, I thought that was kind of a good idea but that's because I'm a lonely old hag.

Me too.
There's rarely been something that I've wanted that I haven't gotten later, usually cheaper as well. Only thing that I've always lost and what bugs me is a BRMC bag that was only given to Virgin employees in the UK and some competition winners. It's rarely on eBay and in the end I get outbid (sometimes I'm in on the last second as well) especially when the bidding ends when I'm not able to be online (sleeping/work) and not just once it's been a guy from the "BRMC-community" buying all the rarities and then ending up selling them (with a v. good profit I might add) on his own site. I think he got frozen off (the gang) in the end because of that.

I have an addictive personality and I know it, so now I decide what is the max I'm willing to pay and I refuse to bid another dollar more if it turns out that some fool has a huge standing bid already. Most of the time, I feel good about that, but when no one else bids after me, it bothers me that I don't know whether I could have gotten it for just $1 more or whether it would have taken $100.

What's really bad for me is when I get it in my head that I really have to have something and I bid on a series of them and don't get one. There comes a point where I'll pay more than it's worth just to get it over with.

Sometimes it's clear that the seller did a horrible job of describing the item and no one else realizes what it is. In those cases, if I really want it, I will set my alarm and get up in the middle of the night and bid right before the bidding closes because people pay a lot less attention to things that have no bids.

I got a Radiohead ticket up front for much less than what people were paying for tickets in the back of the hall because the seller did a crummy job of describing where the seat was. :)

Uh...I can joyn the list of ebay fighters!
I'm totally dipendent from eBay in this 2 last months...i've bought a lot of things and fought for many too... I won sometimes, other times nerves got bad 'cause I lost the competition...anyway.... "You can check on anytime you like...but you can never leave!" (Eagles - Hotel California) :D

I wait until a minute or 2 to go then set my stopwatch as soon as i refresh the page and then when it gets to 10 seconds left start bidding higher or whatever and count in my head and wait til about 3 seconds left before I confirm it and stuff.

It's good though when you wop on a hefty bid and no one matches it cos it goes back to the last highest bid which is nice

I used to get a lot of my albums this way. It ended up draining a lot of my $$$ so I had to stop. It's not worth it in the world of internets. I just spend slightly less stupid now. Besides, I miss seing RARE BRITNEY SPEARS POKEMON NINTENDO CARTRIDGE JAPAN ONLY 7"
