my hair, how do i loathe thee yet i would die if i didnt have thee.
i HATE my short hair right now. i cant wait till it grows back to its old length and i can braid my hair everyday again.
i FINALLY have my original hair color again, it's all me, and it's all nice. but the urge to dye it is so strong. but ive finally gotten the healthy, non-dried-out, non-dyed look and it would be such a shame to start fucking with it again. i have a nice hair color, it's not like my hair is dull. i have very nice natural highlights and i shouldnt expect grays well into my 40's, as per my parentals.
so what the fuck is wrong with me? why do i need to fuck with my hair if it's perfectly fine? i just want it to grow but it's like i constantly need to mess with it!!!!!!!!

My friends like to do this thing to my hair and make it look very witchy when it's this time of the year because it'll be between straight and curly and it's well past the middle of my back right now. In the humidity, it can get scary looking. I have photos of me like that and they're hysterical.
I do know what you're talking about wrt messing around with hair. It's like some hormonal thing--some urge to change it all up. I still fight that urge to just cut it all off and go with something like what Ashley Judd (http://adorocinema.cidadeinternet.com.br/personalidades/atores/ashley-judd/ashley-judd01.jpg) does because that look works on me but it is more effort than I like and when I've done it before, I've wound up liking the style and the overall look but not liking the maintenance and cost wrt the cut/upkeep/products.
So now when I start to think in those terms, I make myself not think in those terms and I laughed when I saw this thread because just yesterday, I made an appt with this local trendy salon-owner to have ^^^ cut done and just this morning, I cancelled the appt with him when I remembered that I have to not do those things.
For me, long=better and easier given my lifestyle.

I am in the process of growing my hair out again so that I can wear it up for a wedding I am in this September. I am in that in-between stage and it's making me crazy. I have never messed with the color...but I cut my hair all the time so I know what its like to fight the urge to try new things. Why not just mess around with new ways of styling it? It's been so damn hot here that its impossible to wear my hair down, as I know it has been hot in NY as well. New updo's?

i have been wearing it kinda up. i have a whole buncha layers so the very top is harder to keep up than the bottom. it's also in that awkward growing out phase and i cant wait till it all grows. i wish i were one of those dolls that you pull on the ponytail and they have instant long hair. i love those dolls. they were brilliant. and, of course, i have my brother and my boyfriend telling me how bad i looked in bangs, now that i dont have them.

god I know exactly what you mean.
I noticed a pattern for me: it's long, natural color, I get bored, I dye it, I cut it short, I hate it. I grow it out again, go back natural, love it, get board, dye it, cut it, hate it.
I decided once I change it I hate it, so I broke myself of doing so.
That and my jobs require natural hair colors so I can't do anything I really wanted anyway. Like bright red again.

My hair sucked, but I cut it short. It still sucks but at least I don't have to do anything to it in the morning. And at least in the Army every fool is gonna have the same hair, so it's not like I'll be the odd one out.My son's kind of curly hair--it's all tiny and nubbley thanks to the army shave. He looks okay with it.
The best thing, to me, about army attire is the Contraceptive Glasses. They're about the most awful-looking military/standard issue glasses and they're so nasty that the thinking is that no woman would want to approach a guy who wears them so they're a safe form of birth control. :)
I've heard that in basic training this year in Georgia, at least 7 soldiers-in-training have died from heat stroke. My son--who never complains about the heat and who is in unbelievably good shape--collapsed in it. Limited sleep, 50# of gear, 20-mile runs, 115-degrees/90% humidity. Bad, bad combinations.
When do you go to basic and where will you go?

I don't start until October so it will be a lot cooler I imagine, and I am down on the South coast.Good. That's so great and you'll be fine.
Not that you asked, but the best piece of advice that my son got, he got repeatedly and from people from all over the place: go into Basic being in as healthy a state as you can be. Don't try to use Basic to get yourself into shape because that will be hell.
Good luck to you.
