The term "spinal stenosis" is derived from the Greek origin meaning narrowing of a normally larger opening, specifically in the location of the spinal canal. This is primarily a function of aging, and previously was understood that if one was diagnosed with it, one just had to live and suffer from the pain.

do you have a sponsor or are you trying to get a green card independently?

I'm not really sure how to go about it if you're planning to go independently but all money is paid at the embassy and it's costly. You need background checks from your past 10 years which include criminal records checks, residency, medical history. The application fee as well as the actual green card costs money too.

Sorry, I have no advice on the green card lottery though because I didn't use it.

you could try to come on a student visa, but you'd have to be accepted to a college here. or you could try to marry someone here. otherwise, if you don't have a job that is going to transfer you, and no job lined up that is willing to sponsor you, then the lottery is the only way for you to get a green card.

apparently you don't live somewhere that you could try to claim asylum.

i assume you've been to the uscis site?

Why shouldn't it cost money? Why would you imagine it should just be handed to you gratis? Someone has to pay for the administration of the program. Who's supposed to do that, me and every other taxpayer? Get a grip.

yeah, it shouldn't be free. you have to have some sort of quality or experience that could meet a skills shortage in the country you want to go to. makes sense. otherwise i'd be living in antigua right now.

peaches, did you guys get to stay in the uk because the mr & yourself are skilled workers (and presumably there's some sort of 'employer wants x person really bad let's get him to stay legally in the country' sort of immigration thing here) or do you have some sort of dual nationality? curious.

i've been looking at the whole canada/australia thing on this site, here (http://www.workpermit.com). i'm not too informed about all of this, but i wonder if these countries are marginally 'easier' to get a temporary permit to work in as they are part of the commonwealth? that's one for google.

anyway, for the canada part anyway they have an immigration points calculator that depends on a variety of factors such as age, job experience, education, english/french language ability and adaptability. you get a lot of points if you have an MBA, for example. business skills, man. gotta love em.

that website has a lot of guff on it too, tho. for example in a page explaining the differences between the usa and canada:

"In the USA, they also tend to judge you by your vehicle."
btw, on a student visa for the usa you can't work for more than like 20 hours a week, and in the case only on campus. and you need the usa university to produce the documentation. you can't just take a year off from your home university and move to the states and get a job.

We came in 1999 on a 2 year work visa, as mr.p's company wanted to open a London branch and sent over a team from the US to get it up and running. He was then asked to stay on longer and the working visa was renewed until June 2006. Since we have been here more than 5 years, we were then eligible to apply for 'indefinite leave to remain', which is what we have now. After we have had that for a year, we can apply to be dual passport holders.
