I thought that zombies couldn't eat other zombie flesh because it's toxic to them.

Yeah but, you wouldn't want to be the hero in Resident Evil 4. Those zombies were on speed, and seriously, what zombies. They were possessed natives.

The Zombie Survival Guide is actually a funny book.
But it's title might just be even more complicated...

They do eat each other.
I think they need to be very hungry and desperate, like in the retake of "Dawn of the Dead".
I think it defies the code of the zombie, they only crave fresh meat and want to consume the living, they aren't attracted to the dead. Perhaps just the freshly dead. Once they become a zombie, they kinda fall off the radar.
Side note, I just read that prinicpal photography/preproduction has started on the remake of the classic "Day of the Dead". They'll probably fuck it up.

possibly because zombie blood isn't as fresh as a non undead person.
They want fresh meat and fresh brains and it's something a zombie lacks.

SCARY SLOW ZOMBIES!

it's not so much about being scary.
it's commentary on social and political climate, really.
I love it.

mainly Romero's films is what I am talking about. It's his soapbox.
Case in point: Night of the Living Dead. Especially.
I think this description of Romeros films describes it better than I can;
Each film is laden with social commentary ranging from racism to consumerism. The films are not produced as direct follow-ups from one another. The films' only continuation is the epidemic of the living dead, the situation advancing with each film, but with different characters and even moving the time ahead from the last to the time in which they were filmed despite the world's progression being the only interlocking aspect of the series. They are different stories telling how different people react to the same phenomonen ranging from citizens to cops to army officials and back again. There are no real happy endings to the films as each takes places in a world that has gotten worse since the last time we saw it, the number of zombies ever increasing and the fate of the small amount of the remaining living always in the balance.

28 days later aren't really zombies, they're infected people.
I only consider re-animated dead people to be zombies.

I like They Live!
That had a pretty straight forward political message in it.
beastieangel01
08-09-2006, 03:55 PM
yeah.
my personal favorite though is Night of the Living Dead.
Everything about it: from the way people reacted to the situation, to the ones that were the most sensible in the situation. The lead being a black man at the time was daring for it's time, and the commentary at the films closing where he's the only survivor and ends up shot in the head. The quick flashes of those photos reminiscent of the Vietnam war photos at the time... yeah.

Fear embedded in everyday life/Anyone could become a zombie/There are 'nobodies' everywhere
Blah de blah.

true. one of these days I'm gonna get a kalashnikov for this reason. duct tape two banana clips together. it's fun as hell to shoot them, I imagine it would be a whole additional level of joy blowing the skull caps off zombies.

I've never made the connection between consumerism and cannibalism, but okay.

it's not at all overanalyzing. If you pay attention, you would know. Also if you really doubt it just read about the director or interviews with him. If that's not clear enough for you, I'll throw a brick at your face :)
p.s. hi, look at ET's post.
Dawn of the Dead
Mall = Consumerist Society
(by the way this is referencing the old Dawn of the Dead, as in Romero. Just look up Romero, really).

Yeah, yeah, I know all about the supposed social commentary. You forget, I had a family member in the original Dawn. I know what the mall represents and the actions and subsequent consequences mean. I'm not that naieve when it comes to Romero movies.
Entertainment. That's what matters.

it entertains me as well. I just like it especially because the satire, which is the majority of the point.
I disagree only in the sense that exploding zombie heads entertain me slightly more than political and social satire.

yeah see I like it when I get to make the zombies heads explode. Like in Resident Evil when you aim the magnum or shotgun at their head. They go KABOOM then the body keeps walking for a few seconds before it falls over.

Except when you get those zombies that after you blow their head off, another snake-like thing pops out and tries to tear your head off. First time that happened I nearly shit myself.

ahahaha
The Cerberus always drove me nuts. What really scared me though, of all things, was the sudden break in of crows on the second floor of the police department on RE 2.
resident evil 4's zombies are awesome (they're not technically zombies, i'm aware, but they're as much zombies as any of the ones in the other RE games; people turned into violent drones by a biological thing), because not only are they zombies, they're zombies who HATE AMERICA. you can mass murder zombies and do your civic duty at the same time, it's great
