Pretty sad. Even though he wasn't always the most likeable person. It's cool that he got to tour again after wasting all that time in prison, though.

Were you a fan? I haven't really known any Love fans.

Doesn't Forever Changes seem kinda overrated?

It's very overrated. But I think the song Alone Again Or is a masterpiece. And the first half of De Capo was solid. I can't comment on the second side because I've only ever cared to listen to it once.

But no, I wouldn't really consider myself a fan. I just own those two albums.

I hadn't heard (or remembered I'd heard) "Always See Your Face" until I saw High Fidelity. That's a damned good song.

Yeah, that's a good song. I don't know what album it's off of, though.

Five String Serenade, which Mazzy Star did an excellent cover of, is another good one.

:( I would like to use an awful lot of f-words now.... :(

I do not think at all that Forever Changes is overrated, it's a masterpiece. And it just grows and grows on you.
I totally fell for Love when I fell in love (yeah, funny that) 27 years ago... It was almost a soundtrack to our relationship (along with Pixies, Jimi Hendrix, JAMC, House of Love and old Siouxsie). Luckily I had a chance to see Love live twice, first time about 10 years ago (bought the T-shirt) and then again a couple of years ago (everybody wondered where I'd gotten my T-shirt). They made a very special concert, Arthur had gotten hold of a local string orchestra and got all the horns as well, so they played the whole album making it an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience. And now it turns out it really was that...
He certainly had his ups and downs during his life, but he and his music will always have a great part in my life.

So you were, uh, feeling the Love, so to speak.

That line about the snot turning into crystal is enough to discount that albums eligibility for masterpiece status, as far as I'm concerned.

sad sad

I really really like Love

Calexico does a good cover of "Alone again or"
goddamn does the original make me sad though

I'm a fan. "old man" is my ish. It took my 2 years of owning forever changes to even LIKE it, but i know regard it as one of the very best albums ever made. I love De Capo, and the first one was alright even though alot of the songwriting was pedestrian. but yeah. too bad about arthur lee, even though to me he seemed like kind of a prick. anyway, RIP.

As much as I like Calexico, I don't think that their version really comes close. But it's still a good cover. It's just that the original is nearly perfect.

Funny thing about that song is that Arthur Lee sings the harmony part on it, but he turned up the vocals on his part during the mixing process. It was vain, but I think it's what makes the vocals on the song so brilliant.

Love is great!

My dad and brother (especially my dad) are huge fans. I'll have to listen to them more, but "7 and 7 Is" is a punk rock masterpiece. This is fact! (y)

I'd agree with Forever Changes being overrated. it has some amazing moments, but doesn't really keep the quality up throughout the album. some awful lyrics in there too.

I was just thinking I would be a geek or something if I did RIP thread for Arthur Lee. Then I saw this. Right On Brothers and Sisters (http://www.ezarchive.com/inhouseradio/AlbumSpace/70V7A9IWIK/Love-+Everybody*27s+Gotta+Live.mp3).
