alot more than their last few offerings. less noise, more hooks, pretty smooth.

not saying that they weren't great or anything but, they're improving as they go along. I enjoyed Nurse mainly because they've started straying away from all the noise and put time into making music.
It's good to hear that some true pioneers of music are still producing some quality stuff.

Yesssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know they've had thee perfect formula almost since day one and have explored every nether region of this formula without moving to a different formula after all these years. It never grows old for me and the tweaks in their craft are so enjoyable... oh hell, I can't be objective here, nor can I make any sense... after all I just met Thurston not too long ago, I'm still giddy like a god damn school girl.
*turns on rather ripped*(y)

Dammit, I haven't even listened to my most recent SY purchases (Rather Ripped, Ciccone Youth, Confusion is Sex, etc.). I'm still on the K's (for Killing Joke), so I got a long ways to go.

There's a pretty good cover story on them in the latest/last issue (depending on where you live) of WIRE.
The accompanying compilation CD has a few decent tracks and A LOT of noisy art shit.
Hopefully I haven't offended any Yannis Kryiakides & Andy Moor or Gerritt & John Wiese fans out there.

I definitely liked their last albums, but found I had to work my way into them. I enjoyed Rather Ripped from the start. without a doubt it's their most accessible record in a long time.

agree'd, definitely easier to get into than Washing Machine and Jet Set Experimental Trash
but I believe Murray Street and Sonic Nurse led us to this

i read an interview with sonic youth where thurston and kim said it was their daughter who asked them to try and make a more catchy record... something her and her friends could listen to. i guess they listened.
