I could see it either way. The fact that it's a quality photo with actual depth of field to it suggests it was staged, or at least they had some time to take it.
On the other hand...never underestimate the stupidity of people.

I thought so too at first, Qdrop. But then I've seen a lot of real photos of people, even children, carrying those signs, or other signs like it, dragging flags on the ground. It's an odd protest, I'm not really sure what they're trying to inspire.

it's too over-the-top to be real IMO.
a child carrying a bigoted sign about homosexuality, wearing a trendy pop-culture Tshirt while holding a fancy cell phone and standing on the American flag...
looks like a lame "social commentary" piece by a second year photo major.

yeah, i've seen it too. go to www.godhatesfags.com (probably not from work, though) or just look up fred phelps, it's a real movement. i've seen pictures of kids carrying signs that say shit like "god hates fags" or "thank god for 9/11" or "thank god for AIDS". it's legit too, as far as i can tell. michael moore interviewed him on his TV show, the awful truth, he's...not kidding.
it's possible that this one picture is staged, but it's a real movement.

I will make it illegal to step on the flag while using a hand held phone. She is not paying attention to things around her. With me in charge, only those with headsets will be able to stand on the flag. This picture is just so dangerous :(
