Example:

Its Thursday morning. You have worked all week and still have friday to go. You dont want to get out of bed. You just want to sleep all day.

What makes you get your ass out of bed and get ready for work?

(Im sure this answer will be diffrent for people thats married and/or with children)

When I feel weary, I listen to myself and I'll get rest. I usually don't feel that way, though. I often have the opposite problem.

The exception can happen in the winter, especially when the cold is just settling in and I haven't acclimated or when it's brutally cold outside and outside of my blankets. What gets me up is the risk of the things that could happen by not getting up and by not getting to the gym--the risk of backsliding and of establishing a negative habit (of taking the first steps to letting a positive habit slip away).

Like I said, though, sometimes I feel deeply weary and I listen to myself when I feel that way, but I'm honest with myself too. I know that I sometimes try to convince myself into thinking that I'm deathly tired when something inside of me is really just trying to be lazy.

honestly? panic, that's all. i've been terrible this summer, i cannot get out of bed. it just gets to the point where i have to say to myself "ok, if i stay here any longer, i can not possibly get to work before i'm so late that they start noticing". just pure necessity.

maybe i should get a more uncomfortable bed.

These days? The paycheck.

When I'm exercising, that's the first thing in the morning, so once I'm in that groove, that's the thing that gets my ass out of bed. I want to bike or lift.

But when I'm not exercising... the paycheck.

Thats a great idea. I workout in the evenings, if i switch it to mornings it could get me going for the day!

Because usually i workout somewhere between 6-9 and then im full of energy til like 3 freakin am.

Yup.

Plus, then you've done it, you feel great, and it's out of the way. Working out in the afternoons -- it's easier to get sidetracked and let something else get in the way so you "don't have time."

It also kind of puts me in a different frame of mind -- like, my life is my own, and the first thing I do when I wake up is get ready for work/go to work/be at work.

I usually get up and turn the alarm off. Go pee. Realize that im still sleepy while im peeing. Contemplate rather or not I should flush after peeing. Then go back and go to sleep for another 3 hours.

My bed is to comfortable as well. I was in chicago 2 weeks ago for business and i slept in a hotel room and honestly never got more than 5 hours of sleep, but i never had a problem getting up.

I guess the only reason I dont do it in the mornings as of now is because of me not being able to go to sleep soon enough. Im always up til like 2 or 3 am and that shit has got to stop, but its hard. Damn college days ruined me!

I also went through periods in college where i wanted to be really buff, workout 5 days a week, and take supplements. It kept me out of trouble and allowed me to graduate, but it was pretty much a waste of time. I guess my body isnt made to get big or whatever. So now i just try to stay skinny, and lift for muscular endurance instead of power/strength.

depending on the day, mood, and what is happening in life:

a feeling of obligation. gotta pay bills.
or
knowing that it's up to me to make the day a good one. I can go take care of stuff, come back and paint or whatever and be happy.

basically.

There are those rare days that I just feel like staying home from work, in bed, and not seeing or talking to anyone. So I just try to remember that today may be my last and live it to the fullest. I tend to live my life that way.

It's what works best for me in a lot of different ways. I supplement with other stuff and that stuff is in the afternoons or at lunch, sometimes in the night, but it's not stuff that I do several times a week only because I'm not consistently available during those other times and because with strict types of training, my performance dips in the evening.

The regular, hard training has to happen when I'm always available and when it works for me: early in the morning 5-6 mornings each week, 5:30-7:30.

you go J-LO.:) :)

What I wrote maybe sounds weird, I just know that exercise is important--it's important to make yourself do it, get yourself to a point where you enjoy it, and then aim to be consistent about doing it. Otherwise, you wind up doing what so many people do:

work to add muscle/drop fat
get complacent & stop
without even trying, you drop muscle and add fat
then you start the whole thing all over again

It's this constant state of flux--going up and down a few inches, a few pant sizes, a few dress sizes--and that's got to feel like crap most of the time. I think there's empirical data that support why that's not a good thing to do.

But I'll stop now. I promised I'd not talk about exercise as much. :o

I've been meaning to start that whole 'exercise first thing in the morning' shit because I used to do it and I just felt better all day. I just need to get off my ass in the morning and do it. Once I get going it'll stick.
