Im trying to transfer movies from my desktop to laptop. (I bought the cable that will allow the transfer), but i cant get my desktop to recognize my laptop as a drive.

I seen software that you can buy to assist you with transferring of files, but i dont wanna buy it.

Anyone know of any GOOD free programs that assist in the transferring of files?....

You don't really need specialized software to do what you are looking to do Justin.

If you're hooking one computer directly up to another, you need whats known as a 'crossover cable'. An easy way to tell if it is a crossover cable :

Look at each connector head-on [both side-by-side] and look at the tiny colored wires inside each one...if colored wires match from left-to-right on both connectors, it is NOT a crossover cable. If the opposite is true, then its a crossover cable.

If you have a spare hub or router kicking around, you can hook the 2 computers up to it with regular network cabling. After that, you just want to make sure all conditions are true to allow file sharing on both computers.
