Sorry if it's been mentioned, but anyway, new album to be released October 2nd. [Link] (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_releases/beck_more_new_album_details_appear.html)

There's a dvd to come with it too.

Beck 2008!

What a cool concept for the album... create your own sleeve. 2 myspace kudos.

I can't fucking believe there's a new Beck record already.

Although, Guero was originally supposed to drop in October of 2004 so I guess this timing is about right.

And even though, I love Sea Change and Mutations, I'm glad this isn't a stripped down acoustic affair.

I heard some tracks when I saw him live back in June- this album is gonna rock.

hopefully it's not incredibly boring and dull like guero

i liked guero, not so much sea change. the 8-Bit remixes from Guero ar awsome too, total gameboy dj style.

I'd give like 8 thumbs up...but I think it goes without saying. I should really request to get my username changed.

Word. I heard one of his gigs on das internet radio, hopefully it's those songs the article is on about.

Guero was a bit disappointing overall so i'm hoping this'll be up to his usual standard. Mind you, everyone has been saying that about every beck album since his debut.

Good things yo

Guero was good but it falls somewhere between Sea Change and Odelay. That is, it seemed really somber yet the production was the usual odd Beck-ness.

Midnite Vultures will never be topped, imo.

Wow, the thing about Beck is that no one likes the same albums.

I'm not in the mood for a new Beck album. How sad is that? I swear to god that I have to find a way to see him live in another city. The Beck fans here are the most hideous people I've encountered since high school.

well i bought it used, and the only Beck song i had heard was Loser (of course), so i think that had a big impact on my thoughts about it. i think i gave it away. maybe i need to give it a second chance and listen to it without any expectations. but on the other hand, i dont care too much for "folk" ish music, if i remember correctly it was a pretty slow album right?

HA! well, I'll give (y)x8

This is one artist that definately works his ass off, and it's much appreciated.

I heard him perform "1000 BPM" live when I saw him back in May. Awesome track...glad to see it on the new album.

Guero was an amazing album. Not my favorite Beck LP (that honor goes to Mellow Gold or Sea Change) but it was typical Beck greatness.

first listen of Guero I was like "iiiight" but after a few listens thru I realized it was dogshit.

I, in all seriousness, cannot listen to Beck attempting to retain his 20 something quasi stoner slacker antics singing about "the vegetable man in the vegetable van" when dude is a practicing Scientologist in his mid 30s with a wife and child. I dont believe you, money. Go talk to your stockbroker about your trust funds and quit wasting my fuckin time.

And for the record the best Beck is old ass Beck. Like "I recorded this in an abandoned shack in one take" Beck i.e. Mellow Gold and anything earlier.

Yeah, because your religion determines the quality of music you put out.

You don't have to read so much into one's music. Take it for what it's worth. When you begin to over-analyze, is when you take the fun out of music in general.

guero has its up and downs. there are probably like 3 tracks that i love....but the rest of it is just ok. the music itself is always good though.

its no mellow gold or odelay.

i think mellow gold was recorded on a middle of the line 8 track in someones house.

as for this new one....i'll download it. unless its on that next shit...which i doubt.

i can really only enjoy about 3 or 4 tracks on guero, and i rarely ever put it on. i was really excited about it, and that turned to disappointment after a few listens.

and anyone that calls Scientology a religion needs to do a little research on it.

Guero was decent but I still like Odelay a lot better, though Guero's packaging - large white "book" with 50 page lyric booklet inside w/glossy abstract artwork + a dvd - sure is nice (if you care about such things).

I agree with everyone who liked it at first and liked it less with every listen. I still love Rental Car when I hear it at my regular coffee shop.

The Scientology thing bothers me. I know that I shouldn't care whether a musician who I've followed worships a rubber ducky but the rumors I've heard lately about Beck's behavior and that of his wife re Scientology are causing me to back off, so that I won't have to deal with it when Beck starts hanging with John Travolta and Kelly Preston. I know that I'm biased and that embarrasses me, but those Scientologists used to stalk me when I was a teenager whenever I'd go downtown near their storefront.

I agree Scientology is ridiculous but if I let people's beliefs/personalities interfere with my view on their music I would not be listening to the following artists:

Kanye West

.....that is all.

Exactly. I have no idea what the fundamentals of Scientology are, and I posess no knowledge of the religion, but what the hell does it have to do with music?

When Beck starts preaching Scientology to us in his lyrics, come back and see me.

I'm surprised at all the Guero haters here. I had the strangest premonition that everybody was satisfied with the outcome of that record. I thought it was a great show of maturity from Odelay, without flattening Beck's creativity or trademark quirkiness. The Dust Brothers really outdid themselves with the production too. Oh well, to each his own.

I liked Guero.

I'm looking forward to this latest release a lot and it's well timed--I can pick it up just as I'm getting back from a trip to NYC. Beck music is often moody, evocative and Autumn is such a perfect time for him to release something.
