HELP!

I just poured a beer into a lovely Guinness glass and now it tastes kinda funky. So I was wondering, is there a proper way to pour a beer?

For instance, should I lean the glass over as I pour to minimize the amount of head I end up with, or no?

I make a point to never drink beer from a bottle, unless its shitty to start with, so I feel like I really need to master this skill.

yeah, slightly tilt the glass and pour nice and slow.

Cool tip if there's too much head- take your fingers and run them across your forehead and then dip your fingers in the head and stir just a little. The foam will go down after that.

the nose will give you more oil or whathaveyou and make the head go down faster. at least mine does. then again i got a big nose so that may have something to do with it.
actuall fuck it...fuck bottles, fuck cans, fuck glasses. Its all about keg stands.

green bottles allow more light to enter the beer, therefore it can turn it to a skunky taste...

Thanks guys! Yeah, I figured the head was what was giving me issues last night. I will be much better prepared this evening.

if you're drinking a beer that is served in a pilser glass such as Hacker Pschore you can put the glass on top of the beer and flip it...slowly raise the beer bottle, if you do it right you'll get a great head.

tilt the glass at an angle and let the bear pout down the glass. especially with bitter/stout/ale.

also, bottled beer is always nice, i reckon.

the secret to great head is this: (beer, that is)

good head on beer is formed at the start of the pour, not the end. so, with your glass upright, pour the beer slowly (but not too slowly) in, right down the centre of the glass. This does 2 things, creates a nce foamy head, and aerates the beer, to bring out the flavour. as soon as the beer hits the bottom of the glass tilt the glass to a 45 degree angle, then slowly wind the glass back to upright as the level of beer increases. bada bing, perfectly poured beer.

however disregard this for guinness. guinness is a whole nother kettle of fish. so most of this was pointless.

i'm pretty great at pouring, at least at minimizing head (i'm an expert at getting no head, it figures). how it affects the taste, i don't know. BUT, what you want to do is angle the glass. start almost sideways. as you pour, keep the beer as close to the edge of the glass as possible, nearly spilling. angle it downwards as the glass fills up. that usually works for me. my friends don't know how the fuck to do it. they all saw that stupid commercial with the seinfeld chinese restaurant guy, "pour down center to preserve flavor!" and they do that and they get absolutely nothing but foam, it pains me to watch. does that really preserve the flavor? i can't tell, because i only ever get to drink the foam that way.

edit: just saw mikizee's post, yes, i don't know what you're supposed to do with guiness. aren't you supposed to drink that out of the bottle? that's what the rattly thing is for, i though.

Thanks for all the useful replies.

Now onto the next question. How important is it to match the appropriate beer with the appropriate glass?

My husband is a self proclaimed expert on such matters, but I find him rather snooty about it. He gets all bent out of shape if I drink a wheat beer in a pils glass and so on and so forth.

important in what way? i wasn't even aware there were right and wrong glasses, i thought any beer-sized beer receptacle was good for any kind of beer. is it just an aesthetic thing then? i would just ignore him, tell him that he should be happy to be married to a woman that enjoys beer in the first place (no offense to the rest of you, just sayin') and to shut up about the glasses already

I've never heard of glasses as being important to beer but on the otherhand, I've heard that glasses for certain kinds of liquor are essential.

i value glasses to a certain extent...like drinking wine out of a juice glass, that won't do unless you're legitimately out of options. go buy a wine glass, jeez.

alls i'm saying is that if you're drinking alcohol and you're not wearing a top hat, a three piece suit, and a monocle, you're doing something wrong. is that so out there?

Ok, see here. I have all of these here (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23/milleson/100_11151.jpg) glasses at my disposal. I would like to know if using them will enhance my beer drinking experience or not.

These (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23/milleson/100_11201.jpg) are the ones I use most often.

I can at least find my way around the wine glass cabinet. Choosing wine glasses is easy and it definitely makes a difference.
