Yeah!
Let's all worry about the terrorists 24/7. Forget about poverty and armed conflicts and other non-important issues.
Bummer for british travelers though. Can't even bring their handluggage on board. I want my game boy!

Agree , they must have been bored today or else they want to distracted people attention from the "massive " terrorist destruction that they are doing right now in the middle east.
I bet the terrorists will be a gang of ghetto squirrels who are tired of paying high price for their peanuts!

they never reported to school and it's been several weeks. right now, they dont think they're terrorists or anything, but their visas have been revoked and the school is just worried that their students are missing. dont get too paranoid.

I wonder if the government will celebrate this by cutting nyc and dc's preventing terrorism budget.

Seriously... I have no great love of the current US or UK administrations, but some of you people seem to think that there aren't actually some bloody dangerous people out there who would just as soon kill any one of you as look at ya. Considering I have to get on a plane at Heathrow Airport with my precious, completely innocent little baby two weeks from today to fly to the US, you'll forgive me if I'm not feeling flippant enough at the moment to just wave this off as a 'distraction techique'.

Well, be more pissed here's what's banned from flights
Effective Thursday, Aug. 10, travelers are no longer allowed to bring the following items on board the airliner:
--All liquids of any kind, including drinks
--Gels
--Lotions and creams, including hand lotion and sunscreen
--Contacts may be brought on board in their cases, but the cases cannot contain liquid.
--Hairspray
--Toothpaste
--Shampoo and conditioner
--Liquid makeup
--Perfume
--Anything else that has a liquid or gel-like consistency.
No baby food?
Baby wipes?
That cool gel pillow you rest your neck with?
Lotion?
Forget it! You're now a potential terrorist suspect and can't bring anyting onboard!

I believe there are people who hate us and want to hurt us, but what has our nation truly done that has minimized that fact?
More wars?
Suuuure that works
Fuck this stupidity, a terrorist could put the explosive gel in their gel souled sneakers..time to board naked!
Hey bush.....Where's OSAMA???
Hiding in the White House!

I believe that the planned threat had something to do with the fact that someone could board with several liquid-based chemicals, each of which independently would not pose a threat (or can be detected by conventional security methods) but when combined would become volatile, so those guidelines actually make sense.

Sounds like the plot for Batman to me
bomb sniffing dogs and machines could make this a bit more tolerable
So how about liquid medications like insulin? How does one keep contacts moist without saline and how explosive can a liquid at such small amounts be?
if this liquid scare is sincere....why aren't they banning liquids on trains, buses, and ferries?

They do use dogs selectively for this, but you'd need an awful lot of dogs. Dogs gets 'scent fatigued' routinely and can't work for long periods; they work in short bursts or they get hyperstimulated and don't function effectively. And again, many of these substances are 'inert' of their own accord, it's only when you start combining them.
And, pack your contacts into your luggage, where you can have them in as much liquid as you like.
I am sure that you will be able to arrange with your airline ahead of time if you have special medical needs.
Are you seriously suggesting that this can't be a real threat, because liquids haven't been banned in any other other places (as yet)?
